21 hours on M6 engine - transmission toast

Recommended Posts

Purchased a new 2023 Axis T220 with M6, son was surfing cruising right along at 3500rpm. Had about 5 seconds of odd engine surging followed by “clunk” noise immediately followed by engine alarm. I put it in neutral immediately and shut it down. Burning smell coming from under the transom. Towed back in. Dealer said transmission is “toast” and waiting on a new one from Malibu. Followed all engine break in cautiously. While waiting 2 hours for sherif to give us a tow, winds picked up and we got close to the rocks. Luckily had a box anchor and once depth shot from 150ft to 20ft about 100ft from shore the anchor was able to hold us. Wife is now freaked out about it happening again with the 2 little guys with us.

I’m assuming this is not common? This is our first newer boat. Very happy the way our dealer is taking care of it quick but I’m concerned for what the future holds mechanically.

Definitely not common at all. I honestly can’t think of another occurrence being mentioned on here. I’m sure there are a few out there but it is definitely not systematic.
