Axis A22 2019 Gel-Coat cracks

Recommended Posts

Hey has anyone out there had issues with cracks in GelCoat? I recently traded up for a 2019 Axis A22 with 200 ish hours on it. Looked at the boat several times in the showroom before making the deal. The day I was picking up and doing a walk around, I noticed a fine hairline crack in the Gel Coat towards the back corner  perhaps coming from stress from the Surf Gate. I questioned the dealer and they assured me that it was only cosmetic and not to worry and that it wouldn't affect my trade in value in future. Since then about 10 hours put on the boat, I've done a detailed cleaning and polishing and have noticed atleast 12 cracks in the Gel ranging from 1 inch to several inches long in different areas. Dealer still assures me that it is only cosmetic and nothing to worry about. Their reasoning is its a darker color ( Black and Wine metallic) and being in Canada the boats here experience big temperature changes which further adds to cracking. My older Supra I traded in had maybe a few very small cracks but also was a 2009. Does anyone think this is something to be really concerned with? My thoughts now are to try to trade in at same dealership to potentially avoid any issues selling in future. I honestly think it would be difficult to sell privately with visible cracks. Any opinions or advice greatly appreciated. :)

Malibu became a publicly traded company in 2014.
Buyer beware of any Malibu after 2013.

I have a couple of very minor cracks near the rear grab handle that I use to attach rope for pulling inflatables.  I pull kids pretty violent so I wasn't surprised.  I'm not concerned about it.

Same on my LSV. Gel is sort of like the 2 kinds of concrete. The ones that have cracked and the ones that are going to crack. Never owned a boat that didn’t have some somewhere.

I had that show up on my rear starborad (2018 T22) a bit of hairline spiders there.  They showed up in Y3 and I got the same answer from my dealer and since cosmetic where not covered by warranty (I tried cuz it made me annoyed).  No change in the next 2 years of regualr use and no problems to report so I guess they were correct.
