Pro80 replacements - need advice

Hey guys, so I’ve got what I understand to be 4 wetsounds pro 80’s on my 05 VLX. It’s on an illusion tower so the mounting seems to be directly bolted into the side of the tower which seems to save a ton of space. The speaks are completely blown out and actually still sound oddly good…. The cone is deteriorated on all of them so at times they can sound bad. Anyways I’m trying to keep the pods possibly and just buy replacement speakers but from my understanding you can’t just slap any old speaker in there. Anybody have a similar situation or could point me in the right direction?

I have replaced the Pro80 speakers with the newer Rev8 speakers on a similar boat and the speaker cans are even smaller giving even more room and a sleeker look.

If the tweeter and cross over are still in working order, one option is to send the mid-bass drivers off to be re-coned and a new surround. Cost wise, you could be creeping up on the cost of a new pair 8" coaxial pods. 

Another option is to find an 8" coaxial that will fit. Most have an OD thats larger then the ID of the pod.
