Picking up Boat for cross country tow

Similar story to me. Mine was only 350 miles away. Have been using Enterprise and UHaul to tow ever since. Saves me a ton of money, logistics, etc. It's a no brainer for my towing needs.

You had better luck with Enterprise than I did.  I bought my boat in Oregon and was going to drive it back to AZ myself but no matter who I spoke to, I got the same answer on a one-way rental.

Just made it home.  Took our 1st ride in the boat.  I'll get the pics and trip details uploaded in the next few days.  The f350 Dually was a beast!  SO LUCKY it worked out!

1,220 miles, about 17 hrs actual drive time

2 day rental with 1 way fee $520

Mileage charge(.39/mile, over 300/day)-$258

So I was right about $1200 to do it myself, not including food or airfare(we fly for free being airline employees).  I was getting Uship quotes for $1200-2800.

I had the shrink wrap with me, prepared to just wrap the bond line and tow with cover.  Dealer suggested not to use cover over that distance. So we spent about an hour wrapping the hell out of the whole boat.  It lasted maybe 2 hours and we looked like an 80 MPH CVS receipt flapping in the wind.  It was a mess, so we ripped itall off and just towed it open.  Weather was perfect, luckily,  and being winter there were no bugs.

It was a lot of fun, and the 1st memory we have alreadymade with the boat.

Looks like an optimal outcome!  Pretty boat for sure and involving the family is a plus from the start.

We rent an Enterprise F250 diesel to move our 2021 23 MXZ if we are going any distance.  MUCH better than a 1/2 or big SUV.  

Appreciate the nod to the Griswalds, nice touch.

Clark would’ve towed with the family truckster, glad to see you had plenty of capacity for the MXZ and a Christmas Tree strapped over the roof (shrink wrapped of course). What an awesome adventure!
