Looks like I may be back in the Bu family. Looking for advice on 2000 Response LX

Agreed.  There's several items I'd like to swipe from a wrecked newer Bu for mine.....like a fuel injected Monsoon.

Maybe if you help me locate a salvage 6.0L with an Econtrols ECM and all the fixins, you can have my Monsoon.  I'd love a repower project to get Zero Off in my beloved '01.

Good info.  What type would you suggest?  I will still need to fold it down to get in the garage.

Mine was a lil bit creaky at first, but after tightening everything up good I never had another issue. Occasional checks of the bolts isnt a bad idea though.  I do think a good tig weld on it would make it indestructible, and could still allow it to fold. The bimini made more noise rattling aroumd than the tower ever made. But some nylon washers took care of most of that.

Peeled the old Malibu stickers off the boat.   There's a little bit of ghosting.   It may take some wet sanding to get it all out

A few more updates.  All seats are out and at the upholstery shop for repair.  Pulled the Port side and vinyl and the entire rear seat and doghouse.  I need to get to the rudder and replace the steering cable.  My next step ( I believe) is to siphon the gas out, remove the fuel tank and get to the rudder.   The panels are a real pain to remove!   Going to give it a really good cleaning before re assembly.  Some of the stainless screws that are hidden in the carpet were stripped and very hard to find.  One trick for anyone trying to get to the rear seat bolts.  There is some foam that is stuffed up under the gunnels.  It makes it really hard to get to the bolts.  Once I fought with it for an hour I gave it a hard shove, and it moved!  Then I realized I can actually take it out easily!   :Frustrated:

I am going to reinforce the top of the fuel tank some.  I was surprised how flimsy it is.  I did see a great right up for a 2002 Response being reinforced.  Not sure how far I am going to go.  No plans to put any ballast in the trunk.  I do have some 1/2" thick marine plastic that I can cut to go on top.  It is much more rigid than the existing piece.  I could use the factory as a template and cut an extra piece to lay underneath the carpet.

I have started thinking I should remove the carpet and install Seadek or Gatorstep.

Vinyl repair for all the small marks turned out great.   Purchased a swivel seat riser as well.  Should be here in a day or two.  Exhaust manifold risers look great.  Still looking at ordering some fuel lines.  I will take a good look when I get the tank out.

Also ordered new platform latch, guide post covers, heater core, platform pins.

Love the update, thanks!  Have some questions running through my head regarding the fuel tank.  Would adding a piece over the top create additional stress on the sides also?  Maybe I'm not understanding, but would hate for you to do something that would make you have to redo later, when you could address it while it's all apart.

I am pretty much in the same page as you.  But the middle of the tank really deflects down.  I am thinking about some aluminum supports as well similar to this thread.

Lots and lots of progress made on the boat.    As I am putting it back together I have one carpeted piece that I cannot figure out where it goes!  I took a ton of pictures.  And even have one of where the screws mount this piece in.  But I was zoomed in a little to far!

Can anyone help?

New upholstery on seats and the sundeck.  New heater core.  New steering cable.  And a new stereo is coming.  Also waiting for the spectrum gel kit.  I have a few scratches I need to fill.  An finally it needs a wetsand to get rid of the Malibu decal ghosting.  Or just order replacement decals!
