Dang, I wish my shoreline looked like that. Beautiful!

Glad to see you you broadening your horizons Hank. I sure like the one we have, but haven't skied it yet.

Sending Donnieb a link to this thread right now. :)

Hey, thanks Tracie! This is super!

Great shots, MRothwell! And great story. You had me going for the first two paragraphs! :)

Boy...it looks cold! You're a brave man!

How was the wake? It looks very impressive for a V-Drive. Did you load up the ballasts and check out the surfing wake?

Thanks!

Donnie

My impressions on the boat:

Please note, I will compare to my '99 SLxi (Diamond Hull) and my Buddies '97 Response LX (Non-Diamond).

Again, I want you all to note that the conditions were less than ideal, and it's been 3 months since I have skied.

Boat: '07 Sunscape LSV 20' with Titan III tower and 4 Titan Speakers. (between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of gas)

Crew: Driver and spotter, each approx 180 lbs

water: Cold (35 degrees) with wind chop

Air: Cold (50 degrees)

Wind: approx 10 mph

Speed: 34 mph

Rope: 60 foot, attached to standard V-drive pylon

First off, this boat was equipped with the LCR 320 motor. It was a photo shoot boat and had 10 hours on it. This was the first time that Idaho Water Sports had it on the water. It was VERY mis-propped and was a dog out of the hole, and would only wind up to 4200 rpm WOT. After we pulled it out of the water, the mechanic looked, and I believe he said it had a 19 pitch prop. So, I will not comment any more on the power/speed. I liked the windshield. The corner post did not hinder my sight and no air came through the holes at 36 mph cruising down the lake. I thought that a heated drivers seat would be a WOM, I don't anymore. Seating and storage are great for a 20 foot boat. Fit and finish is typical Malibu, and I need say no more about it.

Handling: Aside from the prop issue, the boat handled really well. It felt as solid on the water in hard turns as the RLx. At ski speeds, it stayed quite flat in turns and you could really crank it around. Handled the chop that day like it wasn't there. I did not do a bat turn in it because I didn't want any of that cold water coming in. It also stayed bow down at ski speeds.

Ski Wake: I found the wake to be very similar, in size and softness, to my SLxi, and softer than the RLx. What I found, and you can see in the pix, is that there is NO noticeable trough. The SLxi has a very noticeable trough, and the RLX has a noticeable trough if you have a full tank of gas, or extra weight in the boat. I wasn't skiing hard, or using great form, and did not ever bounce my ski across the wake. If I was not in perfect position behind the SLxi, I would bounce the second half of the wake. I would bounce the first half of the wake behind the RLx. It was a fun boat to ski behind and at my level of skiing, I was very impressed that this wake was coming from a V-drive.

Surf Wake: With no ballast and the wedge up, we slowed the boat down to 11 mph and all 3 of us got to one side of the boat (port side). The wake was well defined and large enough to surf, so I'm sure that with proper weighting and wedge, it could turn out a nice wave.

Wakeboard wake: Who cares?

I will remind you, that I have not purchased or ordered a boat yet. I may still look for a '04 SLxi and save a bunch of money. I had to take this boat out and see if it was even an option. In a way I was hoping to NOT like it, because then I wouldn't have been tempted to spend that kind of money. Now, I like the boat, it fits my family and my skiing, but doesn't fit my wallet. We'll see.
