Best Boat Ramp Stories

Several years ago, my wife and I were waiting to pull the boat out of the water at Clinton Lake just outside of Lawrence, KS on Memorial Day weekend. In front of me in line is a guy in an older Ford Ranger 4x2 waiting to load a 25 foot or so Larson I/0. He jumps out of the truck, runs to the dock, puts the boat on the trailer and proceeds to attempt to drive up the steep ramp. The truck begins to wheel hop bad and he's getting no where.

Next, I hear him whistle really loud and a see a lady, I'm assuming his wife/girlfriend, start walking toward to truck. Let's just say she's about a biscuit away from 250 pounds. Without saying a word, she crawls in the bed of the truck, sits over the rear wheels, and the truck drives right on up the ramp.

Never seen anything like that since!

That was probably BayLinerNuts_Ex with her new man. :)

So I go to Tower Park in the Delta a few years ago a week or two before the first Boardstock on the Delta. Its the wife, the dog and I. I've never been there and access looks fairly tight so I pay the extra 5 bucks to have them launch/retreive the boat. They have a John Deere beacuse the ramp is VERY steep. They dump it in & off we go. Had a great day and come back mid afternoon in the wind. Tie up at the gas dock & the wife & dog go ask them to fetch our trailer. The guy puts it in the upwind side of the ramp which is absolutely impossible to get to in the wind. Drift a few feet and you're screwed. I'm going as slow as I can. There is a quick 90* turn right at the ramp, I try it and miss my trailer. I'm lined up with the trailer NEXT to mine. The wind had pushed me that far. SO now I'm stuck with someones trailer in front of me, the wind and current is pushing me against the dock and there is a brand new Donzi right behind me. The guy with the trailer in front of me can't start the truck. So I try to back up, swing the bow over and squeeze between my guides. It took me 3 tries and each time I came closer to that darn Donzi.

As I re read this it don't sound like much. But if you were in my shorts....Man they needed changen'.

No boat involved, but it is a ramp story, so here goes...

In college, we lived in an apartment complex with a boat ramp to a small lake. We literally lived in front of the ramp. Anyway, one night we ordered Dominoes, the pizza came, and about 5 minutes later, the doorbell rings again and it's the Dominoes guy. He had parked in front of our building (which was the boat ramp) did not set the parking brake, and his Honda Accord was about 20 feet out in the lake, on the bottom.

The funny thinng is the headlights on that car continued to shine for about 30 minutes, even though it was under about 10 feet of water.

As an aside, we skied the heck out of that lake with my roomates BOSTON WHALER with a 140 HP outboard on it. We would have killed for a nice Bayliner in those days...

Last year I was pulling my brothers boat out just in time to see an 90 something 2 door Ford Escort attempt to put in Bass Tracker (or some kind of bigger fishing boat). It was kinda like slamming your car door with the keys locked inside (total slow motion), I knew bad stuff was about to happen.

First I have no idea how that little car could pull such a big boat but long story short as soon as the boat got unhitched the Escort slid immediately down the ramp into the water.

It would have been funny but there were 2 kids buckeled into car seats in the back. Mad.gif

Of course everyone around, myself inculded, jumped in and got them out. They were terrified, especially since their father had left them in the car alone while he pulled the boat off.

The cops were called - the bass boat ended up being stolen and the guy gets arrested. I found out later at the marina that he had crystal meth (drugs) on him.

Lake Minnetonka, MN - 3 lane ramp

GIANT twin drive Donzi/Scarab/Forumla/Cigarette on a 3 axel trailer next to us.

Fires up the motors -

RUMBLE! RUMBLE!

Begins to back off the trailer (I think there was some kind of tilt on the trailer or something...) boat slides quickly as it is a steeper ramp...
