Replacement Shift Knob - 09 VLX

Starting in around 2002 or so, Malibu started using a branded Isotta shift knob that looks just like that one, only without the button.  It was just a standard, screw-on knob.  I've been looking high and low for those, but can't find anywhere.  Want to replace the standard Morse ball that was on the MV2 and MV3 shifters.

Is the one you're referring to *exactly* like the earlier picture with black on bottom and chrome on top, or is it just a simple ball?  My presumed original knob is a black ball with 2 halves, the top is covered in (worn) black leather and the bottom is anodized aluminum.  I had planned to re-cover the top half with new leather but never found the motivation...

Been ages since I saw one, but I think I've been thinking of what you're describing.

I would like to order a white one please.

Hey!  I guess the black is more popular that I thought it would be, but I'm glad to see someone actually wanting white.

So I recently had a request for black... I'm not convinced they look as good, but that is always in the eye of the beholder.

Hi @justgary, mate, just discovered this post after losing my button last weekend!  Are you still creating and selling these?  If so, could we purchase one and send it down to us in Australia?

Just signed up to the forum and happy to DM you.  Cheers, Hawkeye

Welcome to the crew!

The cheapest shipping I see on Pirateship.com for a 4 ounce padded envelope to Australia is $29.22 USD.  With today's exchange rate, that puts shipping at just over $40 AUD.  Maybe we can figure out a better way.

Just a note to everyone that red is now available as well.  Actually, nearly any color is available if you let me know and give me a while to source the material.

To those of you who purchased these, how are the working out for you?  How do they look?  Any problems that need to be addressed?

Thanks to everyone for keeping the cottage industry alive!

Hey does anyone have any tips on how to remove the button without damaging all the plastics around the button? Thanks in advance.

The OEM button, or the printed replacement?

For OEM, I would try two very thin blades (like feeler gauges) and slip them between the button and housing to release the tabs holding the button in.  Be prepared to catch the spring.

For the replacement, drill directly into the center top of the button and thread a screw into the hole to lift the button up.  The screw will push against the metal rod that the button mounts on, so the button has no choice but to come up.

I can 3d print some for cheaper contact me at 5879821903

LOL.  You don't even know the price these guys are paying.  And before you do a bunch of CAD work to print them yourself, you should know that I have sold exactly 14 of them.  I do it as a service to keep the crew happy.

Isn't 587 the Area Code for Alberta?
