Surfgate issue; should I be worried

Recommended Posts

We were out tonight, and my 2014 A24 had a warning that said something to the effect of surfgate error. The gate went back in and worked totally fine for the next hour. Just wondering if I should be worried about this and have someone look at it or is this something that just happens from time to time?

Thanks

IME, you could drag it in and the dealer will tell you, "we couldn't replicate the issue, run it until it does it again and bring it in". I would run it until that occurs. Its not like it could cause catastrophic engine failure.

The 2014 Axis surfgate actuator snd control box is the proven but slow  snd debugged 2013 Malibu first gen SG

super reliable and super slow

there is no issue that SG calibrate followed by SG service won’t fix as long as you hear both actuator motors run when you do calibrate first

740 hours on a ‘14 first gen SG A20 ordered new in Dec 13 manufactured 3/14,   which means debugged since 2012 launch of ‘first gen ‘13 Malibu SG and none of my original SG components has been serviced or replaced or even in shop with a problem

And were you possibly getting the SG speed warning with it left on and you hitting the throttle with out Surf speed set  ?

Thanks everyone for the responses. Surfed for another hour tonight with no issues whatsoever.

Is the surfgate calibrate and surfgate service something I can do? And no, I wasn't getting any speed warnings as we were surfing at 10.4 and everything was set. I wasn't anywhere near the top end. I did once forget to turn it off and then the warning came on, but that was 50 hours ago. Thanks for the info and glad to hear I've got lots of good hours to go.

I occasionally get the 'surfgate error' code,  but I have only experienced it when not using the gates. (Kids on zup board). After a restart its gone. It hasn't affected the performance of the gate system while surfing, so I haven't looked into it any further.
