Yep, I hated doing it, but the aft receivers are on a flat portion of the gunnel and my forward receivers are on the curved part of the hull above the rub rail.  It's not ideal, but after you use it a few times you won't even think twice about it.  I helped another Malibu owner do that same.  No complaints.  I would guess the ideal solution would be a somewhat thick rubber washer or a hard one that is curved for a perfect fit. 

If you're really worried about it, maybe take a piece of 1/8" HDPE, cut it with a hole saw and lay sandpaper on the curved area face up and work the piece over it for a while to match the curve?

I have looked at a 24 MXZ and the front ones on it are not perfectly flat but no one would ever notice without looking for it. The contoured washer is a great idea, may do that. The gap is going to be no more than about .015"
