yep the piston are aftermarket but we are talking SB Chevy here. the most common and inexpensive motor to work on ever.

not quite sure which question we are discussing. but..

Correct, there are various rod lengths. You have to match the stroke on the crank to the rod length.

His question was if you could just change rods without changing the stroke.

if you change the rod lgt, you will have to get different piston so the rod lgt+piston pin height match up to block deck height.  ie. if you make the rod longer the piston has to be shorter.  this is the answer. but what is the question? (matrix?)

This is absolutely true.  The 3.75" crankshaft in my boat was $189.

Probably don't need to go forged unless you are spinning >6k rpm.

def true on a car but a boat..you could argue with your spouse that the extra load that the motor sees warrants the extra coin for the forged piece. don' know if boat motors now have forged cranks or not.  I know the LS3(car  motor) has a cast crank and guys put 600 to 800hp to them.

My Monsoon came with a cast crank, cast pistons and 2 bolt main block.
