You could just put a timing light on it once every 3 or 4 times you use the boat to check to see if it's changing.

So don't pull the distributor then?  Checking timing is quick and very easy.  The boat has been in my driveway for over a month as we have been juggling our time working on the new house, kids, extended family, grad parties, etc. etc.  I'd really love to just put it on the lift ($850/yr slip, lift has been in for 2 months) and not mess with it.  I can check timing after the next 10 hours?  I don't want to wreck the cam.

Just another option if you didn't want to pull the distributor.  This would show if it is a continuing problem or maybe the timing was just set wrong last time.
