2015 Response Txi leaking transmission

Recommended Posts

As I understand it, a new coupler is part of the transmission. They said that the face of the coupler was not entirely flat, they used a machine to measure it. I believe the vibration and leaky transmission are not related. Vibration from an out of spec (not flat face) coupler and leaking from a bad rear flange seal. I'm not entirely sure, just hope this resolves it. I would be very interested to hear how your tranny is performing as you put more hours on it.

On a side note, a misalignment on the coupler would put a lot of off centre pressure into the transmission

which in fact, in my opinion could cause misalignment on the output shaft & seal, hence the leak.

Finding these two issues together now would seem to me to be related. IMO.

Glad to hear Malibu stepped up to the Plate Again. Wish you well in moving forward. :)

Thanks for the additional info. The vibration that was detected by the dealer was obviously after they did the 2nd transmission replacement. Odd that they didn't do either a tank test or a lake test after the 1st transmission replacement, since you reported that the first replacement leaked immediately when you ran it on the lake. It would be interesting to learn if both the original transmission and the first replacement had a definitive failed rear seal, based on an "autopsy" by PCM. Hopefully, when they have a stable coupler on the tranny side of the output shaft with this 2nd transmission replacement, there won't also be a bad rear seal. Keep our hopes high :) .

Super Quick Update: Spoke to the dealer today to see if they changed the coupler and they told me PCM decided to ship a new transmission (3rd replacement), it is suppose to arrive today. I'm guessing either they felt the transmission with the bad coupler could have compromised the output flange seal when they water tested it or they just wanted the whole transmission assembly returned to PCM for evaluation. Anyhow, it's November 11 and hopefully I will get the boat back before deer season begins. I'll let you know how it turns out.

They did tell me they lake tested it after the 1st replacement, however based on how quickly it leaked they didn't do a very thorough lake test.
