Test Fuel Pressure on 2011 Malibu

Recommended Posts

Can someone point me to instructions or tell me how I can test the fuel pressure as I am getting a error message potentially related to fuel pressure stating fuel trim short on my 2011 malibu 23 lev with monsoon 350?

Thanks in advance...

If it's anything like the monsoon on my 06, you test on the fuel rail on the port side. Hand tighten the gauge down. If I remember correctly the fitting you screw into is a little tough to get at but doable without removing the plenum, but I can't remember.I believe it's toward the bow side of the fuel rail.

Key up, idle and WOT should all be 58-62 psi.

My problem is I don't know what to look for when people talk about the fuel rail or plenum. Any guidance would be appreciated as I am confident I can test if I just know what I am looking for and need to hook to.

Thanks again,

My monsoon is older but here is what the fuel rail and schrader valve look like on mine.

The fuel rail holds the fuel injectors in place.

I'm not sure what the reference is to the plenum, maybe that's the part that runs the air into the engine from that air filter on your engine.

Just remember there is no neutral lock out on a 2011, would not recommend putting it in gear and reving up engine. You will burn up your strut bushing which is lubricated by water. I am not sure how you would Rev up the motor on a fake Lake on the trailer with a newer boat.

KRider, while it's the right place to start looking, bear in mind that Fuel Trim may not be indicating low fuel pressure, but rather a fuel flow adjustment to a lean or rich condition. This could be an actual lean or rich condition (such as a vacuum leak, etc), or this could be a faulty 02 sensor as well. You may want to have your dealer hook up diacom and take a quick look at it.

Awhile back I got a code about my fuel pump or 02 sensor being bad I got some of the cleaner u get in a bottle to rid any plugs that might be there the code went away. I recently bought a fuel pump vacuum tester, do I even need to check it if the codes went away? I haven’t had problems wit it bogging down since I used the fuel additive.

No need to diagnose anything if it is working ok.
