Upgrade The Bu?

Sounds like saving another year or 2 and buying one without partners is the thing to do.....Wait and then buy your own.

Probably good advice. Just hard to have enough $$ to upgrade the Bu and not do it. Biggrin.gif I'm weak.

You have a boat and it does serve your needs, save up more dough and get a HB as sole owner. Just think wakeup and go. Since you fiscally conservative a HB will typically gain in value and can be used as a write off on taxes. You can invite people aboard the hb and the size of boat really isn't as critical as most of the time not everyone wants to go out at the sametime. Drawbacks are that you'd probably limit other lakes that you visit. Oh, and you are very weak Tongue.gif

I would get the HB. I know I'd use it often.

I'm at the Inlaws HB as much as possible in the summer and if I owned one I'd use it in the winter also. All your buddies will let you use their new boat's just to stay on your HB. Besides you'll be to old to ski soon.

So Get the HOUSE BOAT!

Big D's got a great point, Hell, on any given weekend I can ski or board behind any boat Malibu makes.

I think I'll keep my eyes open for a good deal at Bullard's. Thumbup.gif With cash in hand I could pounce quick. Biggrin.gif

Someone (headhunter, I think) in the south was talking houseboats recently....I just saw this on e-Bay. Looks like a good deal if your local lake has moorings available.

Defintely the Rlxi. What happens when one of your partners decides that they don't want or can't afford to continue the partnership. You either have to buy out their share or sell the HB. Can end up being a royal PIA. It happened to a friend of mine with a big Sea Ray cruiser.

Good plan. Money talks & when people see cash they oftentimes will come down farther than they would otherwise be willing to do.

Atleast my wife doesn't wakeboard better than I ski. Tongue.gif

So I guess I have to decide...RLXi now or solo ownership on a HB in a year or 2?

Hey what does she know, afterall she married me

We're all trying to figure out how you pulled that one off. Tongue.gif

You got a great gal there M-dude. Take good care of her and maybe she won't figure out that she got a raw deal.

Yep that's the secrete. I'd certainly talk to Jeff, Mark and Mike about HB's so you're an informed buyer. In fact we know someone that is looking for a HB soon at Oroville and sell the motorhome.

If you buy a HB solo you could rent it out to your MBO family on your off weekends.

That sounds riskier than co-ownership.

I'd fly out there for a chance to trash, er, I mean rent, your new previously owned HB.

Michael, don't buy-in with other folks on something like this. It may seem an attractive idea, but (you know deep down) it will cause difficulty and taint the experience.

I'd have to agree on buying a share of a HB (or anything!) with friends. Seems like a really easy way to ruin a friendship. What happens when the families have different standards of care (for the HB), there's a falling out, or someone decides to get out of it?

I'd rather just worry about myself and would probably elect to invest in the boat (or save and buy the HB by myself).

Of course your mileage may vary...

partnership is a bad idea for a houseboat. They are a lot of work in terms of maintainance and there are a lot of hidden costs every year. I can't imagine not being able to spend time on my houseboat whenever I want. If you go in with partners it's basically a time share.

Save your money and buy a houseboat outright or finance it. If you pick the right lake you'll make money on the deal at the end of the day.

For me, buying a houseboat was the best thing I've done. It's been a lot of fun.

We're going to try to pull the trigger this winter if possible. A lot of that will depend on bonuses ect.....(mood of CFO)

I agree with the other folks. Wait until you can buy it yourself. I've heard some horror stories about friendships and money going down the tank in a group purchase.

The one on Ebay is right here in Atlanta.

Thats because all your H/B neighbors do all your maintenance Tease2.gifTease2.gif

I voted earlier to get the H/B not knowing your relationship with said partner Only you (your friend) can determine how good that relationship is.

I know many, many, families on the lake that have partnerships that have worked wonderful, actually I'm not personally aware of any that have went sour.

Personally I wouldn't want a partner, but I understand with the price of boats its certainly an alternative to no boat.

My neighbors do all the maintainance because I have a hot blonde wife and they are just looking for excuses to be near her.

Who am I to complain about a good deal. Innocent.gif

Just kidding. I do appreciate what you and Jim have done but I did manage to get all my projects done over the week I was up there all by my lonesome :)
