If it won't stay in neutral, then the linkage needs to be adjusted. It should never slip in and out of gear if the lever isn't moving, which it sounds like you described. If you pull the neutral button and rev it, does the shaft spin? It shouldn't. Linkage problem if it does. Bad trans fluid won't make a trans shift randomly, will it?

Sound correct to everyone?

What I meant when "it slipped out" was coming out of the box, it just slipped out of drive and then would re-engage after I pulled the throttle back. I will pay closer attention to the level this evening when I take it out...we'll see what happens....

Also, the boat is at the glass shop right now, getting measured for a Lexan windshield for $75...it's even tinted, so that's a plus since I can't find one anywhere.
