We have the 3 outlet heater too. One of the outlets is on the driver's side dash. It works great for de-fogging the windshield. When you're not using it for that, just angle it to blow along the windshield over to the passenger side. The windshield carries the warm air around to the observer. Works great, although with the newer dashes, I'm not sure this is an option...
