Holly crap, the congress got off their a$$e$ and decided to do something. Stock is now at $3.26 after peaking at $4.00... Clap.gif

Looks like they are revising the usage rules on the original $25B approved under the energy bill. If so, I'm kinda surprised (but thankful) the Dems compromised on that.

I bought Diesel for $2.89 the other day on the Peninsula. I was shocked...

BIG 3: I think consumer acceptance of American cars will take time. I made it a personal policy to avoid foreign cars if at all possible. Never owned anything other than Ford, Chevy, or my beloved 68' Firebird. Mrs Faceplant needs a new vehicle (99 3/4t Sub with a 454 is getting tired...good luck with a sale or trade...).

We had rented a Chevy Malibu for some reason and I liked it. She did too, but could not get passed the "American car stigma". We rented a Ford Edge while the Sub was in the shop we both really liked it. It has lines similar to the Acura, and several other Japanese mid-sized crossovers. I was impressed with the interior and the exterior grew on me very fast. (besides the excitement of "something other than that black POS Sub...)

I think cars like the Lumina, Caprice, Taurus, etc. and the like Vs. the Civic, Accord, Camary made the fight unfair and built the public stigma against the Big 3. BUT that was the American's own fault...

Do they deserve a bail out? I don't know... But I would HATE to see them go. There would be BIG problems top to bottom if they went away.

I think the BIG problem is how can they compete with the Asian makers when they pay their workers WAY less than US automakers? If we put a tariff on their cars, they will kill us with prices for electronics. Its a lose-lose for the US...

Greed and outsourcing has helped kill our economy.

Go to a hardware store, a clothing store, any store and make an effort to find something that says MADE IN USA.

(Good luck!)

Any questions why we are in dire straits???

Rant off...P

$1.50 here today

A good read:

"If all that GM, Ford and Chrysler offer in exchange for a $50 billion aid package is business-as-usual, then they should get the aid from the people that benefit the most from their gasoline-powered products: the gasoline companies. If I recall correctly, Exxon/Mobil earned a $40 billion-plus profit this past year, and that’s just one gasoline company. The combined oil and gasoline companies could easily provide the aid. Considering that the American people have paid hundreds of billions of dollars for two wars that have done nothing more than protect the earnings capabilities of the OPEC members and the gasoline companies, we’ve already done more than our share."

Denying Big Three a Bailout Can Be a Historic Opportunity to Get America off Oil and Save Detroit

Oh come on guys! It's just a coincidence that gas always goes up right before Memorial Day every year!
