High gas prices

Crude is down $28 since 7/11 and gas is down 25¢ on average. Thats a 19% and 6% drop respectively. Which makes sense since gas increases didn't increase at the same rate as oil.

Today I pumped regular at $3.84 per/gallon in Tracy, I think it will come down even more. Talks about alternative energy resources will drive the price down eventually. When Solar powered energy starts to grow more fossil fuels will start to become less of a resource that we require.

You'll start seeing more of these kinds of cars on the road:

Two people here at work have already put a deposit on this car and are having solar panels installed on the roofs of their houses Whistling.gif

I think I could see myself driving one of these to work anyways Dontknow.gif

couple things i want to add...

being a canadian, i'm not sure why americans whine and complain about gas prices... your gas is say roughly 4.25 a gallon. in Canada, the cost today is 1.379/L Now let's do a conversion:

$1.379/L * 4L/1Gal = $5.516

i remeber when gas hit $4.00 a gallon and everyone was crying the end of the world! I would kill to be able to go back to $1.00/L we haven't seen that in Canada for at least two years...

even when the canadian dollar was stronger than the us, we still paid much more than you guys.

Also a note on supply and demand in the oil market. It is not based on supply and demand at all... prime example:

The Pedro Canada refinery in Edmonton Alberta was shut down. They supplied gas to all of the pedro canada gas stations in western canada. Most stations had no fuel for over 3 weeks. Larger and more important locations were given gas from other sources as to not loose too much business.

3 months of no fuel from the edmonton refinery, and NO change in gas prices... ironicaly, they went down 2 cents /liter during that period. Anyone who says that gas is based on supply and demand is feeding you crap. There's more at work than we know... i don't know exactly what, but there is something...

Date is year, month, day. The price is listed in cents (unadjusted).

Most of the fuel was purchased in Victoria.

Some was purchased as far east as Toronto.

I'll just throw a wild guess out there and say the reason we Americans are upset with fuel prices is how how quickly the price went up in America compared to Canada.

Wife text me while at work yesterday to say that Costco gas is down to 2.89 for regular. I forgot to ask her about it last night, but I am seeing it as low as 3.19 at other stations so it may be true. Clap.gif

Prices are getting more tolerable. But it is the summer prices I am more interested in when I can burn 35 GPD for three weeks straight.

Gas.... $3.50 a gallon.

Diesel....$4.25 a gallon.

You guys have it easy in America, in Aus its $1.60 a Litre for gas!

You ozzies also have it easy ! Until a couple of weeks ago it over $2 here in NZ. But we've still got it easy compard to prices in UK & Europe.

I filled up for $2.81 today in Sachse, Texas. I have to keep reminding myself that they are still raping us at that price, but it sure beats $4.25.

A website full of people who burn gas like its going out of style (FOR FUN) whining about gas prices..........PRICELESS!

Your right, we should stop complaining about getting screwed over by our government (not building refineries/drilling for oil), OPEC (keeping supply low), and environmentalists (blended fuels) because we don't deserve to pay a fair price for a much needed commodity.

Like in ANY situation where you are the consumer........If you don't like the product, don't buy it. Whether it is the price, quality, customer service, or business practices of the supplier....IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE PRODUCT, DON"T BUY IT! I understand that everyone "needs" a certain amount of fuel to function in the world we live in, but COME ON!! I take it you own a boat and a (somewhat gas guzzling) rig to tow that boat. Jet skis too? Don't you think that, just slightly, exceeds your "need" for fuel. How do you define "much needed" commodity!?! It seems to me that people like ME and you are part of the problem, not part of the solution. We cause demand to stay high. We are the ones who keep boating and burning fuel when the suppliers raise their prices. It is insane to complain about a problem that you/me/we are contributing to! Its like listening to a guy complain about how heavy all his money is!

I will listen to a trucker complain about gas prices all day long. They NEED it to bring goods to market. They NEED it to help drive the economy. They NEED it to stay in business. Listening to a guy, who basically burns a "much needed commodity" for fun, complain about the cost of his CHOSEN behavior is.....well...like you said ... Vomit.gif

I don't own a boat, a tow rig, or jet skis. My dad owns a boat and tow rig that I use in the summer months. I own two, 4 cylinder cars that get great gas mileage. I drive 120 miles a day for work and don't really have the option not to use gas. I used to car pool, but due to my schedule I can't do that anymore. If I could work in town I would ride my bicycle as much as possible, but that's not an option right now.

I drive 120 miles a day for work and don't really have the option not to use gas. I used to car pool, but due to my schedule I can't do that anymore. If I could work in town I would ride my bicycle as much as possible, but that's not an option right now.

Hmmm.... Screen name: Jetskipro ...... Boat listed: Sanger........ Avatar: 2 jet skis

First, I must apologize for the confusion........I have no idea why I would have assumed you owned those things.

Second, We live in Oregon...99% of us boat during "the summer months".

Third, It doesn't matter whose name the gun is in if you shoot someone. Or whose name the boat is in if YOU are burning gas in it.

Last, you said "WE should stop complaining about getting screwed" thus assuming the voice of the people I was ('tongue in cheek') teasing for whining about gas prices. Those people ARE, for the most part, gas burning, boat owning, SUV/truck owning people JUST LIKE ME.

The point remains the same: If you don't like the product, DON'T BUY IT.

P.S. Which burns more gas: 120 miles a day in a 4 cyl car OR 60 miles a day (25 in a 4 cyl, 35 in a V8..... that's my entire household)?

Gas (oil to be specific) is a much needed product. There is no way you can say that it's a choice because it isn't. This day in age, there is no viable substitute to gas. Maybe for people who live a "simple" life , they could get away without it but I am willing to bet that 99% of the US couldn't. I understand your point, that we shouldn't complain too much about the price of gas when it comes to boating because we are making a choice to use our boats, and I am the first to admit that I use fuel when I don't need to (boating). With that said, there are many other aspects of our lives where using fuel isn't a choice and there is no way around using it. My biggest gripe is that there is no reason for gas prices to be as high as they are. Even right now as they are dropping fast, they are too high. I don't mind paying a fair price, but we aren't paying a fair price. We are paying a price that isn't determined by the laws of supply and demand.

I'm trying to figure out the point to that one. You burn more gas in a day? So what. We all use it & need it. To say stop using it is an incredibly simplistic & highly unrealistic answer to the problem.

BTW, gas is still about 3.40/gallon here. It's a conspiracy I'm tellin' ya, we're not that far from the Valley for cripe's sake.

I went to Costco today and it had dropped again to 2.87! I could hardly believe it when I pulled up! Premium was 3.19 though.

Well I am suprised to see it this low, this quickly. This is causing specualtion of shut down/delay of new oilsands projects, decreased drilling etc. So we will see who will lead the race going forward; demand destruction or shrinking supply.......only time will tell.

Gas.... $3.50 a gallon.

Diesel....$4.25 a gallon.

Gas.... $3.50 a gallon.

Diesel....$4.25 a gallon.

You guys have it easy in America, in Aus its $1.60 a Litre for gas!

I haven't heard that one before Vomit.gif

Most of us are highly skeptical with the pricing for fuel. Why did the cost of fuel go up when demand didn’t justify the means? The whole supply and demand theory just doesn’t add up when it comes to the price at the pump. There is a whole industry out there dependent upon boat sales and other boating accessories for their lively hood. Face it our country is based around fuel and dependent upon it even if the use of it is for pleasure. Watching a an 18month old surf and 3yo ski is priceless, not the complaining about fuel costs……

I got ya.....but since when does the consumer determine what "fair" price is? Don't get me wrong: the cheaper, the better. I'm not made of money either. I just refuse to waste my breath complaining about something when I am a major part of the problem.
