V-drive Oil Change

Recommended Posts

I don't see anywhere on that bottle that it is Dexron III/Mercon ATF. If it is, it should say it specifically on the front label in bold letters. I wouldn't use it unless it says that's what it is.

The second pictures shows the back of the bottle which states bot for use as Dexron VI and Mercon V. Based on that it should be the lower Dexron/Mercon ratings but like deever said if it doesn't state Dexron Mercon with a rating I wouldn't use it.

That's just me. I'm sure many will say they've used it and they haven't had any problems.

It is my understanding that as quality of fluids improves the ratings go up but the newer formulations do not supplant the older lower numbers. In other words, dexron 4 will work fine in something asking for dexron 3. In that regard its like oil ratings, and "higher" rating will work fine for something requiring lower. Suggest confirmation with specialist, however.

The drain plugs in my vdrive and trans (older version with walters) are a big pain to put back in. I drained fully once, won't do it again. +1 to the advice here.

Hi everyone- I changed my V-drive oil on my 2018 wakesetter. I sucked out all the oil via a manual pump, and the manual says to put in 1.25 quarts of oil- however when refilling I was only able to put 1 quart in before overflowing- far above the maximum line. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? Is the manual wrong? I double checked to make sure I am looking at the correct V-drive.

The 2 constants for me are the correct fluid and using the dip stick to put the correct fluid level in. Low or over filled, in either case you would be adjusting according to the dip stick anyway. Plus a trailer level measurement will be different from an on the water level measurement. A good rule of thumb is to check both.
