    Tommys vs Malibu

Seems to be behind a paywall, but I guess the title says it all.
  4. Hi all, Just picked up a 2010 VLX with 350 hours on it and i can not get the media controls to work from the maliview display. It has the JBL black box in it and just the standard helm remote. The Helm remote works well with all buttons working properly. I changed the 2 connectors over at the black box and the standard remote still works. The weird thing is that the maliview screen shows what mode the Stereo is in eg FM AUX or USB but non of the controls work. The standard remote works in both inputs on the black box and i get the same result on the maliview in both ports. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  6. No need to diagnose anything if it is working ok.
  7. Post a few photos. Take it apart. Post a few more photos.

    Cutlass bearing selection

I also used vesconite when I changed mine. I had to split my old bushings and peel them out of the strut. It took quite a while to get them out, and that was with the strut in a vise.
  9. Thanks a lot for all the replies and prop advice. What's the opinion on an Acme 1847? Not a lot of discussion on here about that one. I only ask because I have a line on one for a good price that's been refurbished. Or is it just better to start with a new prop? I have read about the 1235 and 1939. But, how's a guy to know? The boat is already set up with a wedge, Lenco surf gates, 1000lbs of rear ballast and the stock MLS in the ski locker. This is the setup that was in the boat when purchased, surprised about the prop that is on it. I haven't had a lot of time to test everything out yet. As soon as the boat was put on the lift this spring it has not stopped raining (which is ok because the lake was way down). My plan is just causal activities, no pros here. Would just like to be able to surf, occasional slalom (just for pleasure), kids tubing, I still like a knee board face plant every now and then and just tried wakeboarding last fall and plan to continue that.

Tommy's is $300 per labor hour! I looked at my service RO before I typed it! Sounds like you needed a labor rate increase 😁. I'm not saying they shouldn't be that high because there is more that goes into moving the boats. But I don't expect them to wash my boat either. As other said I just expect them to keep their greasy hands and shoes off the interior. Eating diag can be prevented with proper service estimates that are signed off by customers. If my techs takes too long to diagnose the issue, that is on the tech not me.

    Break In Period

    Get it in writing.
  12. Awhile back I got a code about my fuel pump or 02 sensor being bad I got some of the cleaner u get in a bottle to rid any plugs that might be there the code went away. I recently bought a fuel pump vacuum tester, do I even need to check it if the codes went away? I haven’t had problems wit it bogging down since I used the fuel additive.

2019 - AXIS T22 - No push and setup help

Not trying to be rude here but I have a couple questions. how long have you been surfing? I’ve seen people complain that they have no push and the reality is, they just don’t know how to surf. How much do you weigh? What board are you riding? I’ve taught many people to surf and a ton can’t stay on the wave until they get their feet in the right position on the board. how deep is the lake you’re trying to make a wave on? Shallow water greatly affects the wave.

How far under water level are your lift bunks?

That’s a good idea. In my case it’s a canal that drops water level to like 24” in winter and I plan to leave the lift in year round. My only concern is the hydraulic hoses under the water so will put a small bubblier in, but the canal rarely freezes given the current, especially lately! alternatively, if I raise my legs 100% up (got a 60” farm jack that is awesome for this), it might even get the hydraulics out of the water where they drop it, but not sure on that

    2018 Axis T22 Surf setup

Mine was gen 1, so earlier hull. But for a baseline I’d start with 500 per locker in the rear, center and bow full, wedge at 2 or 3 if PW, and then enough lead or human ballast in the bow to keep the bow rise in check while underway. Speed 11-11.5 (gps).

  18. Great question. I'm on season 3 with my 2022 25LSV and thankfully (fingers crossed & knocking on wood here) I've not had any screen issues.

How far under water level are your lift bunks?

I put 4'x4' pieces of plywood under the legs on my hoist to keep it from settling when I put it in each year. It's super helpful in the fall when taking the boat out of the water, too. Makes it much easier.

    Just a little FYI

    Good Luck happy boating!
  21. We are just now back in the Malibu family with a 2020 23 LSV. We sold our 2005 VLX about five years ago, so have no experience with screens. The seller of our new-to-us boat said he replaced the left screen under warranty. Should I expect that the main screen will fail in the near future? I am transferring warranty for the final year.

How far under water level are your lift bunks?

16” depth or so on bunks, no rubbing, nailed the leveling second try, nice and solid with 4sqft 2x12 pads attached to the lift
  23. That was my thought too. Thanks
  24. I prefer the vesconite myself.
  25. They have a nut on the stern end that can be tightened to increase force. I tightened both with no success. mrothwell, how much stuff do you have on your rack? I'm curious if the springs are too light or worn out.
  26. I have the prop shaft out of a 2002 21 LSV vee drive. The recommendations are to replace the seal with a dripless seal and the cutlass bearings. There are 2 bearings available. Brass and vesconite. What is the groups experience and which should I use. Cost diff is minimal. It's all new to me so I will follow recommendations. I was going to get this shaft seal. I haven't ordered anything yet. https://www.myinboardmarine.com/products/flex-gland-system-drive-shaft-seal-kit-1-1-8-by-johnson-propeller-new?_pos=1&_sid=cfb5d76fc&_ss=r these are the bearings. https://www.myinboardmarine.com/products/strut-bushing-1-1-8-i-d-x-1-1-5-o-d?_pos=10&_sid=1d782d605&_ss=r https://www.myinboardmarine.com/products/strut-bearings-set-glide-marine-vesconite-1-1-8-x-1-1-2?_pos=3&_sid=519f183d4&_ss=r
  27. No idea how it got bent. It was a rescue boat from Boat Angle. It sat for 2.5 years. It was inside so the interior is nice.
  28. Man I am so pumped @csleaver you nailed it! I figured out what the crossover bleed tube (thin metal pipe) was, took it off and it was 50-60% clogged in 1 small area with rust just like you said. I cleaned it out and boat is running like normal! Can't thank you enough, saved me 3 hours of towing it to a dealer and probably being without the boat for weeks plus the cost! Thank you again sir!
