  1. Every year the TheMalibuCrew.com gets a couple of members that have tried to change their engine oil with an oil extractor. These extractors are great for this task if used correctly. The issue is when they try to use the engine oil dipstick tube to insert the small plastic extraction tube into the oil pan to suck out the oil. EVERY YEAR there are a couple of posts from members that have broken off the plastic extractor tube in the oil pan because the plastic extractor tube got stuck in the dip stick tube. Now they want to know if they should leave the end of the plastic tube in the engine or pull the engine to be able to drop the oil pan to remove the broken end of the plastic tube. There are always different opinions on if the tube will damage the engine or not. DO NOT remove the engine oil through the dip stick tube! Every Malibu boat that I have seen or owned has a rubber hose attached to the bottom of the oil pan that is for draining the engine oil. You can run the rubber hose through the drain plug under the engine and catch the oil under the boat or attach the oil extractor hose to it and vacuum the oil from the engine. Some engines will have the hose clipped to the engine, some may be laying in the bilge. The rubber hose from the oil pan will have a cap on it. Remove the cap and drain the oil. Reinstall the cap and fill with the correct amount of engine oil.
  2. From many old posts it looks like folks are recommending Rotella 15w40 Diesel for a Monsoon 340. But which grade rotella? (T4, T5, T6????).
  3. Hello! New to the site! I recently bought a 2008 247 LSV with the Hammerhead engine. We have put about 35 hours on it this summer and it has been great, just rolled over 500 hours! Going to do an oil change tomorrow. I can't seem to find anywhere on the site, suggestions about the best way to drain the oil (how to catch it all without it making a mess in the hull). I have Valvoline 50W Conventional to put in and a mercury filter, both to match what the dealer used before I bought it. Any other tips, tricks or need to knows? Oil PSI seems good with that oil at around 40psi at idle and at most around 58-60psi during a hard pull. Seems to maintain pressure and run well! Lastly, I notice what sounds like a belt chirp at idle but only some trips out. As soon as I throttle up around 1500 RPM it disappears. Any suggestions on how to fix this or what it may actually be? Thank you!
  4. 98 Sunsetter Sat for 2 years..many years since oil change..any reason not to use product like Motor Flush on oil change? And does this boat have a flush line and which side of engine should I search under if it does?
  5. It's time for me to change fluids in my 2001 Sunsetter vlx with the 5.7L Indmar 325HP Monsoon 350ci EFI. My question is how many quart does the engine take? How many quarts of 30weight oil does the vdrive take? What kind of transmission fluid and how many quarts does it take? Also does the transmission fluid and the vdrive oil need to be pumped out or is it drained via a drain plug? Where do you pour in the new trans fluid and oil?
