  1. I was out on the lake and noticed I couldn't achieve full power. When skiing I couldn't reach 30MPH and while surfing I couldn't get over about 9 MPH. The same problem happened last year but then went away. The boat ran good for most of this year and then this last trip out it did it again. I was having problems with the O2 sensors but sense replaced them and no current error codes. The boat does nto show any codes at this time. I have a 2012 22MXZ and the MAP sensor is reading low. Around 9 inHG. I checked the manifold pressure with a gauge and it is right where it should be at 15 inHg. I replaced the MAP sensor and had the same reading so I put the original back in. The Pedal position sensor 1 voltage and Pedal position 2 voltage read the same at idle. Around 0.80 VDC. I'm told these should ad up to 5 volts like the throttle sensor does. I disconnected the transmission temp sensor and jumpered the contacts and no change. I disconnected the depth gauge and the paddle wheel and no change. I disconnected the throttle and did get an error code but no change on the MAP sensor reading. Any thoughts?
  2. We have a 1997 Malibu Echelon. We are fairly certain the alternator needs to be replaced and can’t seem to find the correct replacement. We are not trying to up the amps for anything like a stereo etc. Can’t anyone point us in the right direction?
  3. I've read through a hundred hours of forum questions over the past 2 summers. Lots of problems sound similar but I've replaced all the items that solved their issues to no avail. I have owned the boat for 11 years and never had an issue until 3 years ago when we had a couple trans bolts break that were repaired. Then beginning of summer last year the engine problems began. Many new parts and 2 dealers/mechanics later and no resolution (one is a Mastercraft dealer and the other is a former Malibu dealer). Both have lots of experience with this/similar motor. Boat idles rough (started when issues started) but runs great after throttling up for 2-3 minutes until it reaches temperature (160). After about a minute it falters then loses power. RPM's surge, boat continues to move but with almost no power that continues to fade. Move to neutral and it resets. Boat runs great for about 20 seconds and all repeats. I can do the neutral reset a 100 times and it never changes. The dealers have not been able to duplicate the fail while in the shop. It went to the MC dealer 1st because he is closest to my house: they said the ECM was bad and needed to be repaired. Sent it out for repair. Boat came back and ran for about 4 hours and then failed. After 6 weeks of them not giving my boat attention I took the boat back. Then it went to the Malibu dealer that has serviced/winterized it for me the past 11 years. This is what the former Malibu dealer detailed for me; We found a bad ground last year (19') in the motor and fixed. Motor ran well after that for a couple of hours and then failed and wouldn't start/run. Then we changed the complete distributor because we had no spark. Boat would start and run but then the original power failure returned. Then we changed the distributor again because the motor had no spark again and we found the module in the distributor bad so we changed. The last time in we found the distributor module bad again and changed. Also checked all the power wires and grounds and found one of the grounds going into the ECM to be bad. Repaired but are questioning, since day 1, the ECM rebuild that the other dealer had done. When we hook either my Rinda hand held or Laptop I often can’t get a connection to ECM. Motor also doesn’t run well at idle compared to other like motors. We are at a loss. Here is what has been done, checked, replaced. ECU was sent out for a rebuild Fuel filter replaced Fuel pump replaced Fuel pressure regulator replaced Fuel injectors professionally cleaned and tested Fuel pressure is solid at 44 psi even when boat is failing. MAF replaced TPS replaced New gasket on air intake New distributor Plugs Wires Any thoughts on this would be helpful.
  4. Hey guys, another dude asking cooling questions. This is for the stock 5.7 carb motor. Does anyone have the part numbers for the 160 thermostat and all gasket sets required? I have a small leak at the thermostat housing. Secondly I've had this cooling issue for 2 years now and it's time to solve it for good. Temp rises to 160 at normal pace, then bounces around high and back to 160 quickly, almost like it's a ground issue or something. I need to start going through the whole system to find the culprit (assuming it's not the thermostat). I replaced the raw water pump last year, didn't solve it. From what I've read I need to check the temp sensor, all ground wires, and maybe even the circulation pump? I don't know anything about the circ pump. Please help wise ones.
  5. Hey guys, I recently got a 99 sportster with the 5.7 carb. engine. I was draining the water for winter and the plug on the port side of the block had a lot of metal flakes attached to it. Does the indmar 5.7 310hp engine have an internal water pump as well or is that just passageway deterioration? I have had issues with cooling this first year with the boat but I attributed it to a bad gauge or sensor. The raw water pump and impeller were replaced in the spring. Thoughts?
  6. I have a 2001 wakesetter vlx that runs very poorly, uses excessive gas, smells of gas fumes. It has the indmar gm 5.7 engine. I have found that the engine is misfiring on multiple cylinders. I have changed wire set, plugs, cap, rotor. Replaced the knock sensor. Checked fuel pressure is 45 on the rail. I put a timing light on plug #1 to check the timing, and the light barely blinks. So I changed to the different plug wires just to see what the light will do. It is very erratic on any wire. There is no consistency to the firing. I don't know what to do next. I have read about crank position sensors, cam sensors but I don't know if my boat engine has these. I am unable to locate a crank sensor. It has clean fuel, new fuel filter. What should I do next? I need some help. Am I missing something obvious.
  7. I have lsv23 wakesetter 2014 Indmar monsoon 350. Engine turns over strong but won’t start. There is a high pitched faint alarm that starts when I turn the key to engage electronics , blower and spin up fuel pump. It coincides with a click I hear from the engine air intake butterfly looking valve. I took off the air filter and can see the valve move. I could be wrong but I am associating this alarm-like sound coming from this immediate area and the alarm starts and stops (11 seconds duration) with the slight movement of the valve up in the cylinder. Could this be an alarm indicating there is a problem with the air intake?
  8. After about 30 min of normal use pulling skiers today, I lost engine power pulling up a skier from a deep water start, unable to properly accelerate. I also noticed a whining / squealing noise coming from the engine compartment. I killed the engine, restarted, and immediately had sputtering and power loss upon acceleration. I was able to limp / idle back to my dock, but did lose full engine power 2 times and need to restart the ignition just to limp my way back. I put fresh fuel in the boat, ran the blower, and tried to run it again. I don’t have working gauges so am unable to see oil pressure or engine temps. the engine continued to sputter, refusing to accelerate, and when trying to, hiccuping while engaging the throttle, often shutting off. In neutral, I was able to rev the engine without any issues. what are some first steps I can take as somebody with a low DIY skill level? I’d love if this was just the plugs, but the whining noise from the engine sounds like it’s likely part of the problem. I believe the engine is The Indmar monsoon 325, Fuel injected. update: when I turn the key to ignition without starting the engine, I hear a similar but shorter squeel from when it’s running. This squeel comes from the rear port side of the engine which makes me think fuel pump ? the engine also loses power quicker now and shuts off after about 15 seconds. I can also no longer rev the engine in neutral / not under load without the engine conking out shortly after.
  9. Looking for advice on how you would all proceed here, and also a heads up so no one else runs into this. I have a 2017 24MXZ pics attached and had a recent warranty issue involving Taylors Boats (TB), Malibu and Indmar. Here is the high-level overview of the situation, with full details below for anyone looking for a good read! Always serviced at TB (local Malibu Dealer) on schedule. Paid over $900 to have my boat serviced and summer prep at TB, including replacing the impeller and cleaning sea strainer Less than 3 hours of use later (2 trips to the lake) warning light came on and the engine overheated heading back to the marina, causing damage to the wiring harness. TB told me Indmar was rejecting warranty because I had debris in my sea strainer. After talking with Malibu, told by them TB denied every cleaning my Sea Strainer. Called TB with Malibu on the phone, TB confirmed record (I have receipt) of cleaning it. Talked with Indmar, they said they had no record of anything being submitted, but confirmed if Sea Strainer contained significant debris, they would reject the warranty claim. TB claims they never denied cleaning my sea strainer to Malibu, and that Indmar was aware of the situation and rejected the claim. TB attempted to charge me $1400 over the quoted price, while still trying to resolve the situation. Have attempted to recreate the amount of debris in the pics from TB of my Sea Strainer at the same lake, in multiple boats ranging from 3 hrs of use to 60 hrs of use, and haven’t been able to come close to recreating it. Attempted a conference call with TB, Malibu and Indmar to at least resolve conflicts and find a resolution, but haven’t been able to get them to do that. Paid $2500 for work so I could get the boat and enjoy what's left of summer. What would you all recommend I do? I feel like I am getting the run-around, and am getting pretty frustrated. Considering the boat has an MSRP of $209k, I’m on my 3rd Malibu (the boats are amazing) am I wrong to think this isn't right? Thanks in advance for input and advice and remember to clean your Sea Strainers Sea-Strainers Full details found HERE if you want a good read😉. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p2FbIa0gG3OJegENbTzO5wp9HxglhU5ca57wB1Zpj_c/edit?usp=sharing
