  1. Replacing my interior on my 2011 23LSV. In doing so, I have noticed that my cupholder trays are falling apart (no idea what they are technically called). I am referring to the cupholders that are in the gunnel on each side. They are attached by screws at the bottom and two bolts at the top that are mounted to the chrome handles. The plastics/leather that the bolts go through on the top have fallen apart and are no longer holding up which causes the whole "tray" to sag. I have no been able to find anywhere online (malibupart, bakes, greatlakesskipper, etc) that sells this piece. Was wondering if anyone else knows of where I could find replacements or know of a fix without having to go to through a dealer? Thanks!
  2. Hey all, I'm new here. I posted a WTB ad recently looking for a trailer for a 247 LSV. I am in process of purchasing a boat that doesn't have a trailer and the dealer has been trying to sell me a universal fit model they have in stock. Since I tow a good amount and am most concerned with fit and safety, I have approached several builders, including Boatmate, Loadmaster, and Phoenix. Boatmate essentially pushed me to a dealer which happens to be a competitor of the one selling the boat when I had some questions about spec'ing, Phoenix and Loadmaster were willing to at least talk with me but the quotes for all three have been eye-watering to say the least ($10,900-13,900 as basic trailers, no fancy wheels or lights). I understand finding a used trailer for a boat that's been out of production this long is very unlikely, but I figured someone here might be able to advise, are there any other Malibus with the same hull? I know it's a V25 Diamond hull on the 247, but will any newer models use trailers that will fit, like a 25LSV or anything? Secondly, I've been spec'ing a tandem axle trailer expecting a 6700lb boat (figure full fuel and gear) to assume some conservative loading, but does tongue weight become too low if I were to find a triple axle? I think Boatmate built a few for the 247. I could use some input on my issues. Nick

    After market towers

Just purchased a 2011 VLX and got a pretty good deal because it doesn’t have a tower. I like the Samson Blade but the wait time has me looking elsewhere. I’m leaning towards a forward sloped tower to maintain the Malibu look and a good integrated Bimini is important. Photos and opinions please. Thanks a bunch.
  4. Have 2002 Wakesetter VLX. Bought used without a factory wedge. Is it possible to add one? Is hull transom structurally sound enough to do this? I read somewhere that some Malibu models had to have a reinforced transom to have a wedge. Note: swim platform has access panel already, but that does not necessarily mean that the boat is built to accept a wedge installed. Thx!
  5. Looking to upgrade the ballast system in my 2002 Wakesetter Xti. Id like to get a decent surf wake out of my 02 Xti. I understand its not made for surfing but I also understand that it is possible to get a decent surf wake out of it. With some friends and a liquid force wake shaper the surf wake is alright. However I know I can make it bigger with more weight in the back of the boat. I would rather not just throw ballast bags in the floor. Would like to hide them and save room in the boat. How much ballast will I need and where does that weight need to be distributed. If anyone has any tips please let me know. Thanks in advance, Garrett.
  6. Hello all, I have an 09 Malibu Waksetter VLX and the stereo is all stock. The head unit volume up button no longer is clicking and is almost like it is stuck down. Every once in a while it will automatically turn up the volume on the stereo to full volume which is a problem. I have taken the head unit apart and the button is not fixable. Is there a new inexpensive head unit that you guys recommend (would love to have a bluetooth feature)? Is there a way to get another stock one? Any advice is appreciated to remedy this annoyance. Thanks, Jace
  7. Hi Everyone! Just bought my first boat. 2001 Wakesetter VLX with about 320 hours. In great shape and runs strong, but I need a couple things and was hoping you could help. 1. Previous owner took the wedge off and lost it. Any tips on buying a wedge? Can't seem to find them online. 2. Does not have a cover. Best cover? Not sure where to start.
  8. Will the mission delta 2.0 fit the hull of my 2003 Malibu Wakesetter VLX?
  9. What brand, type, size, etc…. Wake shaper will fit in a 2003 Wakesetter VLX??? Greg
  10. Looking for guidance on root cause for repeated failure of Indmar Monsoon 350 transmission mount bushings (Mainly on the port side). I have a 2009 Wakesetter VLX Around 30th November 2020 (380hrs) I noticed some fragments of torn soft rubber in the bilge and quickly traced it to mangled lower transmission mount bushings on both sides. The upper bushings were fine. This is what the remains of the trashed bushings looked like in situ: Port: https://photos.app.goo.gl/E6WBZjUVtdkpmrp57 Stbd: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6b2Dg4JhBdsjyeM56 I replaced both bushings with Indmar OEM items on 10th December 2020. I reinspected the bushings on the 4th Jan 21 at 395 hours and I was surprised to see signs of tearing on the upper part of the port side bushing already (you can still see traces of the green dish-soap used to help press the bushing in) https://photos.app.goo.gl/fxLhR7XMEzbmaBNq5 The Stbd bushing appears to be mostly ok with some minor signs of damage on the upper section This weekend past (6-7 March 2021) I noticed that the top section of bushing on the port side has separated completely and when I felt around the bottom edge of the bushing against brass nut and steel washer mate , I can feel tearing there too. I have tightened the lower nut and washer but I don't have the specific torque settings to confirm so, I have just tightened it until the busing material mushrooms past the washer by approx 1/4" We surf regularly. I have an Acme 1235 prop, full factory MLS ballast, plus 2 x 550lb rear and 1 x 600lb front, suction-cup surf-gate and a modified hi-lift (downforce) wedge (extra ~300lbs) as per this thread : I have watched the bushings when under surf towing power and it seems the port bushing is significantly compressed/deformed (which makes sense due to the loading and torque response corresponding to the direction of prop rotation). I had a mechanic check the prop shaft and coupling and he was happy that the prop shaft is straight and the coupling aligned without doing a full realignment exercise. We arrived at one view being, that the additional load was a likely cause of the excessive movement in the mount. We also discussed potentially changing to a firmer bushing material (e.g. polyurethane) in that specific application (lower port side) Various other conversations with dealers and distributors have not revealed any new information other than one opinion that even with the additional loads this should not be happening and suggested that something else is wrong or perhaps lower nut/washer may be too loose. (I don't have accurate torque specs for those yet but I tightened them until they mushroomed past the washer by about 1/4") Main mounts look fine but it it is difficult to see their condition inside. Has anyone else had similar experience and found a solution or else, have sensible suggestions as to how I may approach this? Thanks in advance
  11. We are looking for feedback information on the best after market prop for surfing with our Malibu. We had a 13.5 x 14 and need to replace. Recommendations and places to purchase? We are in Canada. Thanks
  12. I just purchased a used 2016 VTX 20. It’s been in the water an entire full week, and I’m already i need of technical documentation. I find the “owners manual” to be useless. Searching this forum has been helpful, but hit or miss. Is there any real documentation that will help me troubleshoot problems?
  13. I have a 2013 vlx 21 and previously couldn’t get the wedge to do anything then I found a fuse that goes to it, I replaced it and it automatically put the wedge all the way down. Now I can’t get it to come back up
  14. I have a 2012 Wakesetter 23Lsv, Boat has high altitude prop, 410hp, 6L engine. Used to get 38mph top speed with the high altitude prop. Noticed last week top speed is reduced to 30mph WOT running 5500 rpms. Replaced spark plugs, no change in top speed. New batteries 2021 not that that should make a difference. Prop is clean, hull is clean, no bottom growth. Engine sounds great, no vibrations, no fluctuations in rpm. Any ideas?
  15. Hi all, I have a 2006 Malibu Wakesetter with a manual wedge. We just got the in upholstery re-done and all of the dash plugs were unplugged during the process. We dropped the boat in the water last week and now I am getting a warning message on the In-Dash display which shows "Power Wedge is Moving Up." I moved the wedge up and down, looked under the dash, no fuses are popped, and all of the plugs are where they original were to begin with. I also went to the "Setup" section in the In-Dash Display to see if there was something there to tell the system that we do not have a Power Wedge, but I could not find anything. I even went to the Setup section and cycled the gauges... no change to the Power Wedge warning. It goes off ever 5 mins or so and has an annoying beeping noise. Please Help!!!
  16. I just recently started the Wakesports Club at The University of Alabama and I'm currently trying to acquire a boat for the club. We've got 30+ eager members waiting to get out on the water and are soon to have many more. We don't have a tremendous amount of funding at the moment, so I'm reaching out to see if anybody may have a desire to help us out with this, or may have any connections that would be able to help us out. Any leads or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
  17. Hey so i have the 3 hatches in the back on my 2006 wakesetter. Has anyone taken the cushion off the middle one and done seadeck on it. Or does anyone have thoughts about doing this?

    Which boat to buy?

Hey guys, I am planning on buying a boat for our 5 person family, 3 teens and 2 adults. We have been able to teach all three to ski on friends and family’s boats and were looking to purchase our own. The kids are beginner skiers and will not being doing any slalom courses, just a bit of recreational fun. They are also keen to learn to wake surf, and one likes to wakeboard, but again purely recreational, I can’t see him doing any backflips anytime soon😂. I am looking at a second hand ‘16 20 VTX, as it is within our price range and seems to be able to fill our needs. At most I think it would be us and 2-4 friends so the small size wouldn’t worry us. It would be useful having more room and storage, but it isn’t needed. Performance over size basically. Any advice would be appreciated.
  19. Happy New Year time to get to work on the boat. I had a weird "stiff spot or break over spot" on my 2008 Wakesetter LSV 247. I was going to just change the cable but I notices play on the back side of he column, so I took it out. Is the steering wheel shaft itself supposed to be firm-ish. It does not grind or bind but is is stiffer than I expected. Bakes has a whole new unit for about $200 so should I just do the swap and maybe the rack too with the cable? I assume I can't get that shaft and press the bearing out easily?
  20. For 2003 Wakesetter VLX 21': any idea where I could find brackets that support my swim platform? I would need both parts of the bracket (ie the part that's screwed onto the boat, and the part that's screwed onto the platform). Thanks.
  21. From the 2013 Wakesetter VLX to the 2014 Wakesetter VLX what changes were made? I want surfgate but in 2015 the draft was changed to 27” and I don’t have clearance for that. Looking for any changes between the 2013 and 2014 model years. Thanks!!!
  22. What are differences in the hull and resulting differences in surf wake and wakeboard wake of a fully weighted wakesetter VLX 21 hull for the 2013 - 2014 model year versus the 2004 Wakesetter VLX 21. Specifically the 2013 and 2014 wakesetter VLX hull with Surfgate. I have a 2005 Malibu VRide - 2004 Wakesetter hull - which I run fully weighted - two rear 750 + stock belly + Under bow Nose V Sack + 450 Fat Sack on top of cushion in the bow + 500 Lead wake in the walkway. I use a Ronix Wakeshaper and manual wedge down to surf. I run the Acme 2079 Prop to Push it. The wakesurf wave is phenomenal with a 3 Person crew. I wakesurf and wake foil every session. I love the wakeboard wake but hardly wakeboard anymore. I have to take the boat through a bridge and when lake levels are low I fill the bow sacks completely and barely get through. In 2015 the VLX hull jumps to 27” draft which I believe would be a problem. Not sure what year they started the diamond hull but I assume I don’t want one. I have a dedicated slalom boat.
  23. Hi All, First time poster here and interested in buying a used Wakesetter 23 LSV as my first wakesurf boat. I'm interested in buying one that has a control system that is touch screen, and looks to be that 2015 is the first year that was incorporated. Can anybody confirm? Are the big updates on the control system after 2015 that would warrant buying a more recent model? Thanks!

    1999 Wakesetter VLX

Hey Guys! I’m new here and am currently looking at buying a 1999 Wakesetter VLX I’m an experienced wakeboarder with over 15 years of riding cable. Due to the current Travel restrictions I’m switching over to boat riding (hopefully)! Being a cable rider I am completely lost when it comes to the value/reliability of boats in the industry. By no means do I have alot of money, I’ve been saving for years and this is a huge investment for me (laugh all you want haha) so I’m just looking for some guidance from people who Know their stuff. I’ve got my eye on a 1999 Malibu Wakesetter. The engine just got rebuilt (less than 100hrs on it). It comes with trailer, wakesurf shaper, kicker speakers, 2 ballast bags equaling 2200lbs. Here is a link to the ad https://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-motorboat/markham-york-region/1999-malibu-wakesetter-vlx-21-8/1514292739 I primarily will be using it for wakeboarding. What can I expect From the wake on this thing as far as pop goes? Is this a diamond hull or wake hull? The seating looks weird to me, is there normally seating at the back and/or side of the boat? They are asking $20,500 Canadian pesos for it... the equivalent of 15,340 USD. Is that a reasonable price? Sorry for all the questions but I look forward to hearing from any of you! Thanks in advance !!!
  25. Hi crew, im about to embark on a damper plate replacement on 2002 vlx wakesetter Vdrive with a monsoon 335. If anyone has any detailed guides with photos specific to a vdrive it would be much appreciated.
