  1. I have a 2004 LSV Monsoon 340. Boat the last 100 hours or so has always stayed at 160 while warmed up. This morning took the kids skiing and it never went above 140. Battery is good, other gauges work fine. Manifolds do feel cooler. Ran at 160 yesterday. what are the odds the thermostat is stuck open? Currently pulling it out and sticking it in some hot water to test. Any other ideas? Is it bad to run it at a lower temp? of course I have a spare at home about 2 hours away… Thanks! Edit. (not pulling the thermostat, I don’t have any gasket sealant.) I’m assuming I can just pull the blue plug to see if water is flowing with lower temp to see if water is flowing before the engine is up to temp, correct? thanks!!!
  2. I am trying to trouble shoot a M5DI engine that is overheating. I have cleaned out the strainer and checked around the raw water intake. The dealer is slammed and said it will be 2 weeks or more before they can get us in. My next step is to check the impeller and replace if needed then check the thermostat. Can someone tell me where these are located on the engine? A couple of pictures would be great.
  3. Hey guys, another dude asking cooling questions. This is for the stock 5.7 carb motor. Does anyone have the part numbers for the 160 thermostat and all gasket sets required? I have a small leak at the thermostat housing. Secondly I've had this cooling issue for 2 years now and it's time to solve it for good. Temp rises to 160 at normal pace, then bounces around high and back to 160 quickly, almost like it's a ground issue or something. I need to start going through the whole system to find the culprit (assuming it's not the thermostat). I replaced the raw water pump last year, didn't solve it. From what I've read I need to check the temp sensor, all ground wires, and maybe even the circulation pump? I don't know anything about the circ pump. Please help wise ones.
  4. Happy holidays, folks. I'm a newbie to this board and to Malibu boats and would very much appreciate some advice on an overheating issue. I have a 2014 LSV 247 with an Indmar Monsoon 6.0L engine and a v-drive. I had a bad impeller and the boat overheated. I shut it down when the alarm went off, but it got hot enough to bubble the finish in a spot on the exhaust manifold. I replaced the impeller, which wasn't too bad. All of the fins were there with no big chunks missing, though the end were tattered. But upon starting it, the temp shot up. I then took a bucket filled with water that has a clear hose connected to the bottom and connected the hose to the raw water intake hose. When I ran it, it sucked up water from the bucket, so the impeller is working. I double checked all of the water system hose connections and drain valves and they are all in place and secure. I figure the problem must be either 1) the thermostat is stuck closed, 2) the water circulating pump is fried, or 3) bits of the old impeller are creating a blockage in the system. #3 seems unlikely given the shape the old impeller was in. Left to my onw devices, I'd pull the thermostat and test it in boiling water. Then I'd check for blockages. Lastly, if none of that worked, I'd replace the water circulating pump. Is there a way to test the thermostat without removing it? I there any way to test the water circulating pump without removing it or at all? Could it be a different cause all together? If anyone has any experience with this and can help me shortcut this diagnostic, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Brent
  5. Hey guys! I have a quick question regarding the cooling system on my '94 echelon. il give you the back story first... So last weekend I bought my first boat, took it for a test drive and everything ran beautifully. I took it home, buffed the hall and tidied up some electrical over that week. The following weekend I took it out for my first time as a new boat owner. She was running a little rough (I realize now I wasn't giving the boat enough throttle/ fuel) Anyways took it for a quick loop to warm it up (about 1-2 minutes) and a alarm started going off, turns out the impeller went and no water was circulating through the system. Temps got to about 230+ before I released. (again new boat owner so this was all new to me). I shut the motor off to let the motor cool down and slowly limped the boat back in in short intervals to let it cool down. When I got back to the house I took most of the cooling system apart (hoses) and found what I think is 98% of the grenaded impeller packed in on the cooled side of the heat exchanger. Well I'm at it i'm going to change out the thermostat as a maintenance routine so I know when it was last done (this is where one of my questions comes in below). So thats the back story of all this. here's the question! - First do you guys thing I should be worried about anything running the motor that hot? (please say no so I can sleep at night) - I changed to the thermostat well replacing the impeller and noticed under the T-stat was bone dry, Should I dump a bucket of water down there to "prime" the system before testing the system? Any other tips/ tricks you might has i'm all ears! Thanks so much for the help!
  6. Hi All - I need to replace the thermostat on my 2005 Malibu Response this spring. I have an LCR 320 and have the correct gasket and thermostat in hand that I purchased from Skidim. With that being said I'm trying to research on how to do this properly. I've done some googling and tried to watched a few videos but I haven't found anything that seems similar to my boat / engine model. Anybody have anything I should check out? Also, which gasket sealant should I use? I know that I'll have to use a chisel to get the old gasket off from what I hear but I was curious if there is more to the process. It has never been changed from what I can tell. I'm at about 550 hours. Thanks!!
