  1. I have a 1998 Sunsetter LX with a manual wedge. The foil broke a couple years ago so I had it welded back together. It broke again the other day at the hole where the pin goes thru to hold it in place up or down. At this point I think there may be a fair amount of metal fatigue so I'm reluctant to have it welded again. When it does break the water pressure forces it up and I know bending like this is not good for the strength of aluminum. Any ideas? Anyone aware of a Malibu boneyard (junk yard) where I might be able to get the foil as the mounting seems to continue to be in good shape. Any chance of getting a replacement foil or full wedge assembly from Malibu?
  2. I have a 2001 Sunsetter VLX with a manual wedge (stainless foil). I'm considering adding a FAE, but I'm concerned that the FAE will make setting and releasing the manual wedge even more or pain than it is today. Questions: 1) is this a valid concern, 2) if I do the FAE upgrade with the manual wedge and I hate it, then do I have to redo the FAE again if I upgrade to a floating wedge? 3) I don't know exactly how the floating wedge works, but it sure seems like one could make a manual wedge "float" by simply not locking it in at the bottom. Does this work?
  3. I have a 2005 23 lsv with a manual wedge. I really like the wave that the boat puts out when wedge is down but yesterday the wedge broke off where the bolts connect to the arms. The foil was completely gone and one arm was bent. I took the foil assembly off and we kept surfing the rest of the day without the wedge. The wave was still pretty good considering we had some fat sacs in the rear locker, but definitely not the size it was before. I looked everywhere I knew to look for a new manual wedge but couldn’t find one. Does anybody have any info on how to get a wedge, or if an auto floating wedge will work on the same bracket as the manual wedge? Or if I should just put more weight in the boat and do without the wedge? Like I said I wasn’t completely unhappy with how the wave looked without the wedge and I definitely could add a few more ballast bags.
