  1. Looking for some help from anyone with experience in electrical issues on 2012 Wakesetter. I’m having issues with the boat starting & multiple issues when it actually does start. I’m wondering if it could be a neutral safety or throttle issue? I replaced the touchscreen because I thought that was the issue with starting. (MTC touchscreens make a beautiful replacement that cost 1/2 of the factory replacement, but upgraded so it won’t delaminate again!). Turns out it was not the touch screen & I’m still having the issue: When I put my 4 digit code in, the “ENTER CODE” icon turns from yellow to blue “START ENGINE” …but will not recognize that I’m pressing the button. I investigated all the fuses, breakers & relays… everything was perfect. I figured it can’t hurt to replace the power relay & the ignition relay on the ECM that’s mounted on the engine. That seemed to fix the problem, but only temporarily. Now the same issue of the boat not starting because it doesn’t recognize that I’m pressing the start engine part of the touch screen. (The batteries are fully charged & all cables are securely fastened. The kill switch is flipped up to run.) Occasionally the boat will start, but is giving me many issues: The boat will start, but shuts off on its own after about 1 minute When I do get it started, I will put it in neutral & try to gently give it throttle to warm up & the boat jumps into gear while in neutral! This happens in both reverse & drive When the boat does occasionally run, I will ease it up to 30 mph or so, then after a minute or so, it will promptly experience an immediate power loss & go into a “limp” or “safe” mode. Then I cannot go much faster than 10 mph, even at full throttle. Other times when the boat happens to be running, it will turn on cruise control by itself. I will be driving along at cruising speed & all of a sudden it kicks on when it was set to OFF. I am getting the Service engine code for SPN 65591 FMI:7 for cylinder 1 misfire. I brought this boat to the dealer for service in the spring for a tune up & to investigate this issue. They said they cleared the code, put in a new spark plug in cylinder 1 & it was probably bad gas. It seems like there’s MUCH more is wrong than that because the code returns and goes off as soon as the boat is started I’m not sure if I need a new ECM, or if it could be a throttle or neutral safety switch? Or if it has much more electrical issues than just that. Thanks for your help!
  2. Hello friends! Last weekend I added a hot water shower to my 2018 22 VLX. The electrical is currently wired with the hot lead coming from the 10 amp circuit underneath the throttle followed by a rocker switch. The ground from the bus bar under the helm. Unfortunately, the 10 amp hot lead labeled shower found under the throttle is always hot (provided the battery is on). This is problematic as sometimes I forget to turn the battery selector to off and I would hate for the shower switch to remain on and drain my battery. I would prefer that the shower could only run when the system/malview is turned on. The plan is to add a relay after the 10 amp circuit however I'm unsure where to get a trigger for the relay that will only be hot when the system is up and running. Any best practices or suggestions?
  3. 2006 Malibu Wakesetter 247 LSV. First day on the river this season after a full day of boating, I started smelling electrical smoke. Pulling into dock it really started smoking from under the dash and shut the motor off. I let things cool down and tried ignition switch. No power from switch. All accessory switches do have power. Any ideas what this could be or how to find out. Thanks Steve
  4. Have a 99 Sunsetter LX w/ the Monsoon. Having an issue where all my electric on the dash goes in & out. Its slowly gotten worse with time. This year starting out, the gauges don't work, the blower didn't work, & even the radio. The Battery was fully charged, the boat starts right up with no issues, even when none of the things on the dash are working. After getting up to speed all the sudden, everything will start working, but will then all of it will keep randomly cutting on & off. Is this most likely a ground issue? Or the computer going out (I know that it can be with gauges, but it doesn't make sense to me with the blower & radio also not working, they shouldn't be running thru the computer, are they? I don't have a battery switch on it. Appreciate any feedback . Thanks
  5. Hi all! New to the boating community! I just purchased a 1998 Sunsetter LXI with less than 300 hours on it. It has a fuel injected Monsoon 320 engine in it. When I dropped it in the lake for the 1st time a month ago, it ran great! All the gauges, motor, pumps, etc. When I took it out this past weekend, I lost power to certain gauges, but not all. My clock, depth finder still had power, but my oil, fuel, engine temp, tach, and speedometer all stopped working? I tried tracing electrical but I thing I am not looking in the right spots or missing some. I found the fuses located in line coming off the engine, and all fine there. I tried resetting breakers but none tripped. I also check the fuses under the dash and nothing appeared to be blown. Am I missing something? Is there a wiring guide anywhere? Please help! Do I need a new board? I've read that the mmdc board might be bad? But where and what does it look like? Thanks for any contributions.
  6. Hi everyone, Looking for some advice as I’m having issues with my dashboard manual bilge light switch. I bought my boat about a year ago and had 0 problems until recently, I noticed that the bilge light on my driver dash started blinking. I knew this was going to be an issue and lo and behold - the bilge light now continues to stay on every time i turn on my engine or give battery power to my boat. The bilge pump continues to run and I’m afraid of going in water with this issue as I don’t want the pump to burn out. To diagnose the problem, I did the following 1. I checked the float switch, cleaned it, made sure nothing was stuck. I was still skeptical so I actually replaced the pump (Sahara 750 automatic) and the problem still exist. So it’s not a float switch being stuck issue 2. Even when I cut all 3 bilge wires from the pump, the bilge light stays on 3. Checked the current to all the wires connecting to the 2 bilge pumps on the multimeter and all have power. Fuses are all intact, but I replaced both anyway with 5 amp fuses to make sure My mechanic thinks it’s an issue with the button on the axis dashboard, except that the bilge button on the 21’ axis is connected to 1 socket that powers all the other buttons (blower + ballast pumps). He suggests I contact the dealer and get a new grey dashboard set (the one with blower, bilge, ballast etc). Has anyone had this problem and figured out a solution? My temporary solution is to just hook up the black bilge wires (ground), brown wires (auto float), and keep the brown/white disconnected. Essentially running the boat with auto bilge pump function without the manual override. The concern here is that since the bilge light is On, I’m continuously draining battery by sending power to the brown/white wire (I may be wrong in this thinking since this wire isn’t connected to anything). Also, is it possible to remove the manual line fuse to cut the power to this brown/white line since I don’t plan on using it for a while? any advice here is appreciated! My dealer is 4 hours away so I rather figure this on my own then make the drive if possible
  7. I bought an 08 VLX with just over 400 hours about 4 months ago. The next day we splashed it and went for a ride in the cold. After the first ride the plug was not taken out & here in southern Alabama it rained...a lot. When I got in the boat to get some gear out it was full of water. It was above the oil pan. so I took the plug out drain the water checked the dipstick & noticed some water. (no water in cylinders) I turned the boat over, did not try to crank it, just to make sure I still had electrical connection. I took it straight to a marine repair to I have them fully drain all of the oil from the pan plug and do this 3 times to make sure all the water was out. When he cranked the boat up for the last time he couldn’t get it to shut off so he changed the key ignition switch. (Oil & key switch, $796) I was told by the original owner that you always need to switch the batteries breaker to OFF, or it will drain them. I told the mechanic this. So when we splashed the boat yesterday yesterday the batteries were dead. I jumped it off. We went cruising and boarding and I noticed that most gauges weren’t working and I was getting the occasional beeping with code “system fault“. Most of the gauges started registering about two hours later, on our way back to the dock. When I unloaded everyone and sent my wife to splash the trailer, I couldn’t turn the boat off. I had to open the motor bay and pull the distributor wire ( nothing like a little jolt⚡️ of electricity to get you woken up and pissed off.) I’ve got some electrical issues and wanted to know if anyone has had experience with these and can give me a good place to start. I am new to Malibu and inboard motors in general. But I do have a mechanical understanding so I’m going to try this myself. THX IN ADVANCE!!
  8. Any help is welcome and much needed! Boat ran like a top yesterday on the water, and today boat would not start. When key is moved to the accessory position it doesn't even beep. No sound, nothing, just dead. Tried to turn the blower, the bilge and the radio on and nothing from any of the accessories. Checked the batteries and they read fully charged with 12.7 V. Tried resetting all of the breakers and disconnecting and reconnecting all the cables. (Have not tested w/ multimeter). Ensured everything on the battery end and CB ends were securely mounted. I assume maybe a bad breaker? But would that not mean that all the breakers went bad? Which in that case would seem strange, as I am unaware of a Main Breaker on the boat. If you know of one that would be awesome! The boat is a 2000 Malibu Escape LSV. Again any help would be grateful, thanks!
  9. I crossed the battery terminals (dumb) installing the battery and now my dash gauges (speed, fuel, temp, oil pressure, and diagnostics/depth/cruise control, etc) and radio are not getting power. I have power to the touch screen interface for controlling lights and the start and stop button, and the engine starts. It seems like I popped a fuse or breaker since all gauges are flat dead and not just goofed up but I cannot locate a tripped breaker or burnt fuse. The main breaker at the battery terminals was not tripped and all the under dash fuses in that fuse box are fine. The only thing I am unsure of is the 40A F7 Main Breaker on the back of the engine block. That is not a clear see through fuse and seems to have a reset on it that will not depress. Does that signal the fuse or breaker is damaged? I also cannot seem to find a replacement to purchase online. Any ideas?
  10. Hey guys, I'm newer to the forum here and looking for some help if possible. We have a 2003 Malibu Response LXI with Monsoon 335 that keeps dying on us. The boat has been in the water for a couple weeks and everything has been fine until now. It will only stay running for a few minutes until dying off the lift idle or in gear, and after a few minutes of being off it will start again, but the cycle only shortens each time after it starting again. The boat is not over heating, and oil pressure is reading fine. Thought it may be a fuel pump issue, but after putting a voltage meter on the fuel pump, the voltage drops just before the boat dies, so it seems the fuel pump is fine. We are guessing it's an electrical issue. This has now happened before with an older battery as well with a brand new. Any and all thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.
