Middle seat failure

Recommended Posts

I have an 07 vRide and keep having problems with the back middle seat falling into the boat if you step on either of the back corners. It looks like a design flaw because there is not enough space on the railing under the seat for the sides/back to set on. It's a big problem since it's the seat over the front end of the engine and it's where everyone steps into the boat after skiing/tubing, so it's an accident waiting to happen. Has anyone else seen this problem and what did you do to fix it??? HELP!!!

I have the same problem on my 07 vRide. I called the dealer and they said they'd take care of it at the 10 hour service when we bring it in. Not sure what they're going to do, but I've heard of others adding a support bar that goes across the seat or the area that the seat goes into to make it hold up better. I've had 2 friends so far step into the boat and fall right through and I've done it myself once. I can't understand how these boats made it out of the factory like this.

I have an 02 SSlxi and I have had problems with my port side corner seat falling in and not the middle. Not sure if it is still the same, but in my boat all I did was take the screws out of the vertical seat support and move it over enough so that both seats (middle and port side corner seat) had equal space. Took about 10 minutes. Hope this helps.

IMHO...seats weren't meant to be stepped on by 200 lb guys. My suggestion is to take out the center seat when your skiing and put it back when you not???!!!

Take out the center seat on a v-drive? This is the seat that covers the v-drive assembly and transmission. Not only would it look like crap but it would leave the engine area open for people to drop stuff in and possibly fall into if they aren't paying attention. If the seats weren't meant to be stepped on, they should have made a way for you to exit the boat. How can they expect you not to step on them?

Talked to the dealer and he told me they will take care of it during the 10-hour inspection too. They will put additional supports along the side to prevent it from slipping into the engine/trans compartment. I work in automotive engineering and can't understand how what seems to be an obvious design flaw made it out of the design room and into production. Oh well, I'll get the dealer to fix it and back to the lake. Thanks for the input.

As krward mentioned above -- there is a very simple way to fix this. Just move the two plastic supports/spacers underneath the seat (the ones towards the front of the boat) closer to the edge of the front of the seat -- 1/2 to 1 inch should do it. Then you might need to adjust the ones on the towards the back accordingly. I did this on my 06 Vride and have never had a problem since.

Just get a power drill and unscrew, then move for a tighter fit, and screw back in. No additional support braces needed... at least in my case...

It's a little late, but here's the update. The dealer installed a middle cross bar (steel) with carpet covering (matched the interior carpeting) at no cost. Perfect fix, no problems since, boat was perfect through the rest of summer. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT SPRING, I guess it's hockey for the next 5-6 months in Michigan!!!

Had the same problem and told the dealer to do the above fix. Worked great for the rest of the season. No need to add a support bar. Now the poor boat is looking out at 3 inches of snow this morning. :( First year of ownership and first year of payments in the winter....

Same problem on my "00 SSlxi. The more I probe the more I find factory flaws on this boat. I've only had it since July this year.
