Caliper for Fin Adjustment

The new F1 is finally here! Where is the best place to get a caliper to measure fin adjustment? We used to just etch lines on the fins and then eyeball it until we got it dialed in. Measuring sounds like fun. Whistling.gif

I think the 8" one should cover it as well...they are definitely cheap at harbor freight, but good enough for me.

or ebay. i got mine on there for about 25AU$, so it works out a little cheaper than that. there is no point in spending 100+ on a 'good' caliper. the 'cheaper' ones will still get within a few thousands every time it will make next to no difference to 99.9% of us. cheaper the better IMO...

I'm anticipating that you will want the how to:

BTW...I have two 8" calipers and guess what? They measure fin length and depth differently. Funny thing DFT is the toughest and they both measure within .002 of each other. It has to do with the way they designed the tips and also when using the jaws they have different size cutouts. Depth is a wonder to me but as far as I can tell maybe the thickness of the caliper end is just enough different to give me 2 readings. So....you can get close with somebody elses numbers and then you just have to keep track of your own adjustment settings from there and use the same caliper each time. Keep a log too as when you go from cold to warm water or mucky water to clear water your ski will act differently. Wait!! YOU have the F1 That thing rides so deep you can just make sure the fin is on rightside up and pointed the right direction and it ROCKS!
