Boom deployment

Until recently when we riged our boom we would do it by our dock, near shore where we could stand in the water to slide the outer section into the inner section. But, several times we have needed to install it or take it off when away from our place and either went to a suitable shore or just used someones dock. Well, we found a better way we thought we would share.

We install the inner section, pivot it to point straight up. Then point the outer section straight into the air and slide it right down into the base section. Might take you one try to get the pin to align to the right hole but it sure is a snap once you do it. Takeing it down that way is just as easy. We even sometimes tie the inner section to the fly hi pole, pointing straight up to get it out of the way for short periods without takeing it out of the bracket. Like when pulling into the lift.

Anyone got any other tricks they use?

I put it together then hold it in place while someone else pins it. I usually clip the end of the cable to a cleat in case I were to lose control and drop the boom over the side. After it is safely pinned to the pylon, I move the clip to the front of boat. :)
