Help Reduced speed

Recommended Posts

Having more problems with my engine. I have a 1992 Malibu Sunsetter with a 350 Mecrusier tour ski engine from 1996. The boat has great power at take off but after it reaches about 35 MPH (4 RPM) it starts to slow down to about 20 MPH (2RPM). Trying to keep the speed causes the boat to go up and down in speed. It feels like the engine is starving for fuel so I replaced the fuel pump and filter. No luck. Can anyone help?

Don't think this boat has 2 filters. Where are both filters located?

I had a similar problem with my '06 340 monsoon, and replaced my fuel filter with a fuel/water seperator. Racor has a 10 micron spin-on filter available for these units. My motor was losing power and backfiring thru exhaust. Ethanol fuels don't take long to absorb moisture here in the DELMARVA area even in the garage all winter.(2 month shelf life)?

I too am suspicious of ethanol. I saw alot of problems last year because of it, but it was mainly with outboards.

One should be on the engine and the other is usually hidden under the deck in the trunk area on top of the gas tank.

I had the same problem with my EFI Monsoon, I tried a fuel/water seperator inplace of the inline filter and it runs great now! The seperator is the same as I/O's use, I'm using a spin-on Tempo filter but I'm getting a Racor 10 micron soon. Ethanol is biting alot of gas engines because of water absorbtion. Also Starbrite Startron and Drygas type products may help. Good Luck!
