2007 Wakesetter "Core" graphics

Recommended Posts

We have a 2007 VLX with the Wakesetter Core graphics. The decal has a flat component which is bonded to the hull. The raised component is bonded to the flat decal. It is that bond which is failing. (the raised part of the decal is peeling off) Has anyone else had this experience?

We are frequently on a private lake, and consequently, we make a lot of right turns. The right side is failing first, but there are areas on the left side which are starting to go. The dealer has ordered a new decal, but I don't want this to become a chronic problem. Unless Malibu got a defective batch of decals, and they have since made significant improvements, I am pretty sure that a chronic problem is exactly what we will have. The Core graphics are a $300 upgrade, and it doesn't look like a good value at this point. I detest the Tribal graphics and the Grunge graphics, so that is why we went with the Core.

Anyone else have experience with this? Any suggestions?

There have been several different types of the decals/emblems failing over the years. It's a warranty item and you will probably get a better bond with them from the dealer if they make sure everything is clean and the new ones are pressed on good. We had a set of the raised Malibu emblems fail on a boat a few years ago and we used a rubber roller to make sure they were pressed on well when they were put back on at the dealer.

Cold weather makes these not stick as well but this time of the year that won't be a problem.

I've not seen or heard of the emblems failing a second time but it might happen.

It sounds the surfaces wasn't cleaned properly before the domed outline was applied. As Ronnie said, just make sure your dealer cleans everything and you'll get good adhesion that isn't going to fail.

We haven't seen any problems with Core graphics on any of our boats.
