looking to get my first boat

I have been convincing my parents for a while to buy a new malibu, so anyways ive been mainly focused on the money aspect because my parents wont use it much. I have got a pretty darn good deal on a 07 VLX, and was mainly focusing on the resale in a few years with a medium amount of hours and wondering if anyone has any comments about that. The boat im looking at has the monsoon, power wedge, Bimini top, swivel racks and a few other general options. What kind of resale have people been getting and how will the increase in boats prices affect the used market down the road?

I am not the best at answering this, but hopefully get this started. Generally boats take the biggest hit the first year. A VLX is an in-demand boat. Malibu has the largest % of the market share for wakeboard boats. I think only maybe MasterCraft IMO might hold value better, but I don't have facts to back that up.

Like anything boats are depreciating assists. The rough amount I factor in is $5k a year of loss. But that isn’t factoring appreciation costs for a new boat, or insurance. It depends on where you are to. The best way to figure it out is to try to look for used boat prices in your area of similar specs. That’s how I figured my depreciation rate.

IMO Malibu is a great boat for value. Some boats like Moombas might be cheaper, but once you add up all the options its probably not worth it to get one of them. So in this idea, I imagine that if you’re going to get any wakeboard boat, this is probably the one, if not going for a V-RIDE. Check out some old VLXs and see what they go for now.

We bought an 01 Sunsetter two years ago. We installed perfectpass and then used it for two summers (used approx 200 HR). We decided we didn't want to fool around with the fatsacs anymore and bought an 04' VLX. We sold the boat for only $500.00 less than what we bought it. If I were you, I would look for a boat that is used. You can save a lot of money even if it is only a year old and let someone else pay the first year depreciation which is normally the most. You will be able to justify this amount to your parents a lot easier.
