Alernator Question

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the amp rating is on the stock alternators.

I have a 99 Wakesetter and was wondering if it would be enough to charge the additional batteries I want to but in. I plan on using 3-4 batteries (1 for starting, 2-3 for stereo)

I would be worried about where your going to put all that equipment that is going to need 2-3 batteries  What kind of system are you going with? I am running two batteries and a 4.0F cap and my stock alt. has done just fine so far.

If I remember correctly, the stock output is a wimpy ~55 amps?

You'll definetely want to have the stock alternator re-wound by a starter shop. And, make sure it's marine grade. They'll also need to install a slightly smaller pulley to get it spinning faster. I believe the stock unit can be bumped up to ~80 amps with the stock pulley and ~100 amps with the smaller pulley.

Don't forget you'll need to run some heavier gauge wire to the starter for that ~double output.

AS far as stereo components are concerned, I an running about 1000w to the sub, 600w to the tower, and 300w to the int. speakers. Also running tower lights.

When not boarding we spend time listening to the stereo. Most of the time its either at the bridge at Berryessa or on the delta
