Radio cutting out intermittently at high dB levels

I have a face plate unit system as most do. It will work fine until I crank the dB's above 25. At the louder dB's in cuts on and off. The face plate goes blank and the sound quits as if there were no power to the unit, then it comes back on for a few seconds (maybe 5) and cuts off again.

The only thing I can think of is that the louder dB level pulls more amps and something is tripping it. Can that be?

Any other suggestions??
