steering cable replacement in 01 malibu sunsetter

Recommended Posts

Just did mine last weekend. The biggest trouble I had was getting the silver nut loose from the adjustment tube. I tried to use locking pliers and vice grips to hold the black adjustment tube but it kept spinning. Finally used a pipe wrench to hold the adjustment tube and put the end of the pipe wrench against the muffler and was able to get the silver nut loose. Having a small pipe wrench is the ticket!! Also take off the plastic vent screen in the bilge enables you to help snake the cable out and back in. Don't forget to tie a string/rope to the end of the cable when you pull it out and use that to pull the new cable through to the rudder.

It also is a blessing to have a 16 year old to get up under the dash!!

You have to do it yourself, how else can you develop a relationship with your boat. If someone else works on her she won't love you, back.

That's the best rationale I've ever seen right there. Excellent advice! Thumbup.gif
