07 Wakesetter VLX

I see a lot of comments about versatility here & normally I agree. But there are 2 problems that I see to this whole thing, & they're related:

1) He's coming from an older Sunsetter LXI "Classic". There aren't too many crossover boats that stack up well against that boat.

2) He isn't going to demo it.

Personally, I think that a VLX on the diamond would be fine for most people. But in this case because of the buyer's history, I worry that it won't measure up well to his previous boat (with regard to the slalom wake in particular).

I have to agree with you, I currently own the wake hull and heve skied behind it a couple of times, you are not going to run a course but it's alot like an I/O wake at ski speeds. If for nothing more I would purchase the wake hull for resal value.

Not sure that I agree with that assumption. It wasn't all that long ago that the 2001 Sunsetter VLX was a very sought after used boat due to the v-drive configuration on the diamond hull.

And WG is right, not many 21ft. boats produce a slalom wake that compares favorably to the pre-'05 SLXi.

True, but that was on the old SV23 diamond hull. The updated V25 diamond is a whole 'nother issue.

Thanks for the input WakeGirl. Honestly though, I wakeboarded (and so did my son and his friends) behind the Sunsetter much more than we slalomed skiied. With the VLX, we'll probably wakeboard 65%, Wakesurf 25%, and slalom 10% of the time. I just wanted a boat versatile enough to effectively accomodate all 3 sports. Hopefully, (and by the looks of some of the other posts) it will be just what everyone that wants a tow, is looking for.

Wake hull.

Based on that breakdown, I'd agree with that. Get yourself a buddy with a dedicated ski boat, that will give you the best of everything. :)

Based on that breakdown... Cry.gif ...I would suggest that you take a step back, re-evaluate your life, and slalom more. Thumbup.gif:lol:

If you're going to slalom behind it at all, get the diamond hull. Yes, in a perfect world we would all get to ride behind a "non-compromise" boat for each discipline but that ain't gonna happen...(actually, in a perfect world everyone would slalom and we wouldn't have these problems ;) )

:) You'll enjoy whatever boat you end up with. :) Welcome to the family. Welcome.gif

FWIW, I was asking this same question two years ago when I bought my VLX. I had a similar desire for cross-over functionality. At that point in time, the majority opinion on this site seemed to be keep the Wake hull. My dealer felt the same way. The ski wake is not ideal, but taking resale value into account and recognizing the small percentage of time skiing, I have no regrets.

One other thing to take into account regarding this decision is that if you plan to flip in a couple of years, you will likely be able to flip a wake hull quicker than a diamond.
