G4 tower pivot stud loose

Recommended Posts

I have a 2017 VTX with the G4 tower.  This spring we noticed that the tower was shaking a lot more than usual while in rough water.  After some investigation I noticed a gap between the tower base port side, much larger than the side.  I took off the panel to tighten the locking nut and/or pivot stud assuming they were loose and causing the problem.  Turns out the threads in the base that the pivot stud screws into are totally gone.  See the hole circled in the photo.

Couple questions then....

1) Anyone know where I could source a new base or if they are even available?

2) If not available does anyone know the size, diameter, pitch of the threads to I could either re-tap them or insert a Heli coil?

Other ideas are welcome.

| Customer Service | Protomet | PTM | 865.425.0600 x124. PTM Watersports made these towers and they have some parts left. They also have diagrams and fixes they will email you if you call them for pivot tightening, gasket replacement, tower breakdown, etc. Might be helpful?
