Starter fitment

Recommended Posts

2007 vRide with LCR 320.

Replaced starter today and there seems to be a gap between the starter and bell housing. Old one had a bit of a gap too. Replacement starter was Mercrusier part number from Malibu dealer.

Boat starts fine.

Is this just normal?

Trying to upload pics but can’t seem to. Will try later.

As I recall some of these starters need shims for certain applications, they are included in the kits sometimes. Anyway, I replaced one on a previous malibu and used a hi torque mini starter. It too left a gap but was tight and worked really well.

Do you by chance have a pic of this shim?

See that. Not sure. I am wondering if you need that shim kit. Don't have a pic but someone here may chime in.
