Summerization

Recommended Posts

In the past I have had the 'Bu winterized and summerized by the dealer. When I get the boat into its new home I won't need to winterize anymore. Yahoo.gif I used to winterize and summerize the old I/O prior to the 'Bus, but didn't want to screw it up with the nicer (more expensive) boat. I usually have the boat summerized by this time, but have been too busy to get it down to the dealer and this week is no exception. It looks like we have some nicer weather heading our way and wanted to get things ready. I'm thinking that I could get things ready myself instead of taking it to the dealer. I am assuming the process really just involves putting all of the drain plugs back in place. Is there more involved than that?

How about a list of what is done to get the boat ready for the season after being winterized?

Are you building a headed garage?

With the size of his garage I would hope he put a head in it. That would make it the perfect NOMAM room.

Hopefully, he also got it heated. Tease.gif

It actually doesn't get all that cold here. It does get below freezing some, but very rarely below 20F. I added a series of radiant heaters that can be turned on when it gets cold, or when I am working in the garage. Right now the boat is sitting outside under one of those Costco shelters.

I winterize, shrink wrap and un-shrink wrap, summerize my boat every year. When it finally gets warm here in Mi, I usually put all the drain plugs back in, drag out the garden hose start her up and let her run til she gets up to normal temp and double check the fluids. Make sure all the coolant has been flushed out of the exhuast headers (I have a closed cooling system).

After that I change the oil and wash, wax, and I am off the to lake. Yahoo.gifClap.gif

Not much to it actually, my dealer wants $125 to do that. Crazy.gif Not worth it to me.

That's pretty much what I thought. I can use the money I save this year to buy a Fake-a-Lake, which I was going to do anyway, unless I put in a Flush Pro. I don't have a closed system so I don't have to worry about any coolant.

Rob,

Thanks for the offer. I will see about picking one up tomorrow though so that I have it for Wednesday when I should have some time to get the boat ready. My son is itching to get out later this week. We are thinking about getting in some skiing up on the mountain Saturday morning and then hitting the river in the afternoon/evening.

The impeller has been sitting dry all winter not to mention about 1/3 of the fins have been sitting up against the cam getting completely squished...I would change the impeller before heading out...but that's just me. :)

For most of us.. that is the case every spring ;).. really shouldn't be a problem. I replace mine every-other season, and they still come out looking more-less like the new one going in

Better safe than sorry - just didn't want David thinking he couldn't run his boat w/out replacing the impeller

Ive got a Fake-a-Lake just sitting around i wouldnt mind getting rid of as well. I bought it last year, and it was a pain in the butt to get a good seal to the bottom of the boat. I bought a flush pro this spring and will be installing that. If I remember correctly the price isnt that different especially if you are going to DIY for winterization and summerization.

Dibbs on that fake a lake if Ob doesn’t want it. PM sent.

Go for it.

I bought the Fake a Lake and never ended up using it. In fact, I took it back yesterday and got a refund and instead ordered the Flush Pro from SkiDIM last night.

I got everything ready on the boat and was going to take it out yesterday, but ended up with an extra hose and clamp that didn't seem to attach to anything. I finally figured out that it was the hose from the heater. It had been attached to a Y-adapter, but was supposed to have been rerouted to attain heat at idle when the boat was winterized. They took out the Y and put in a straight connector for the hose to the impeller housing, but left the heater hose unattached. I called the dealer and will take the boat down when I have a chance to let them take care of this or at least give me the Y so that I can do it.

The biggest problem I had was getting the engine drain plugs/knock sensors back in. The bolts and holes on the block were corroded and I had to get those cleaned up before I could get them back in. It should have all been much easier - but of course it never is.
