2005 boatmate torsion axel failure

Looking for information on  welding a torsion axel into place temporary.
I purchased my first wake boat last week and while transporting home had a front torsion axel failure.
Local Trailer repair shop is a minimum of 4 weeks on new axel replacement.
I have been told this is a pretty common issue with the boat mate trailer axel around this year.

Has anyone welded it into place for the time being so the boat can be used for the time being while awaiting the new axel from Dexter?  Boat will be transported only about 3 miles back and forth to landing while unit is welded.

Thanks for the help
