ISO: 2002 Wakesetter gauge cluster

Recommended Posts

My 2002 Wakesetter had the tachometer/perfect pass fail and in search of a matching replacement or will replace the whole cluster if I have too, open to altrnate options as long as the gauges match.

Thanks,

Scott Daly

If you still use perfect pass your best bet is to swap to a multi line display and newer perfect pass.

You most likely won't find a single line display gauge and the gauges for the mmdc system are getting insane on price.

I am not sure how the perfect pass and tach gauge interact, and i am not sure which MDC you have, but mine has some cracked solder joints.  Would be worth looking at to see if yours has a problem or not.

@twitchee2I agree the Medallion MMDC/MDC's often are the cause of gauge issues but that combo gauge doesn't use the Medallion at all. Works completely independently of it. I know this as my MMDC failed and rather than replace it I fitted new TRD gauges and wiring loom from skiboatpartsonline.com and I kept the combo tacho/PP. It's wiring all stayed as was.

I've messaged malibuscott as I'm removing my tacho/PP gauge soon to fit Stargazer

Scott, it's a bit pricey, but the StarGazer is literally a plug-n-play mod and couldn't be easier.  I have the same year, make, and model and did the swap.  You switch these boxes and gauges.  PM me and I'll walk you through it if you buy the unit.  It's stupid simple.

There is a tach and pp for sale on a Malibu Facebook group.  I did the stargazer upgrade as well.  Easy swap.  Just needed to plug in the tach feed which wasn’t obvious.   Looking forward to getting rid of the paddle wheel speed as well.  Single line pp wasn’t as accurate as I would have liked.

Thank you for the response and feedback, it does look plug and play! I actually don't reallyuse the PP so not worth the investment, just wanted tio get an operational tach as the main goal!

I have an '02 Sunsetter LXi which had the Gen3 Medallion MMDC.  I recently removed it and all the gauges/LCD as both the speedo and tach were not working, and I suspected the computer would eventually fail.  I switched out to analog gauges with a single simple kit from skiboatpartsonline.  Anyway, I kept the old unit, and I wanted to offer it for free to anyone here on the board that could use it.  Again, the MMDC itself is operational, though not necessarily perfect.  The gauges were not working, but I suspect that was the gauge itself (corrosion or mechanical failure) rather than the controller.  No promises, but it's free, rather that the crazy $2k+ you'd probably have to pay for a replacement

Canalman66 ... I'd be interested in your offer if it is still available.  I'm trying to troubleshoot the gauges on my 2001 sunsetter ... thanks
