Sensor on engine question

 What is the sensor above the oil filter but is not the oil pressure sending unit?   

 It has a single wire going to it..

 Does it ever leak oil or just the sending unit...

Very likely the oil pressure switch.  I agree about the pictures thing.  It's a thing.

If it has a brown wire, follow it and see if it also links to a sensor on the front of the intake manifold.  Most likely it’s a pressure switch and is your low pressure alarm.  Yes it can leak.  Oil may be coming from lower rear corner of valve cover.
