M5di Oil Change

Recommended Posts

Is an oil extractor a must or will the oil just drain out of the hose?  I used to change the oil in our strendrive all the time but never an inboard.  Looks easy enough and saves a chunk of money over dealer.  Just want to make sure I get everything I need.

I drain through the drain hose and transom plug overnight. I did have to to add an extension hose for it to be long enough. I just slip it over the brass fitting on the hose from the oil pan and electrical tape it together.

Same here on my LSV. As soon as we get home I will pull the hose while it is still warm and let it drain over night. Odd that the hose on my LSV will almost touch the floor coming out of the transom plug. Given some of the other inconsistencies I experienced I am not really surprised about it. I will occasionally have the filter canister full of oil which can make it a little messier to swap, but not too much so. Here are the numbers for it:

NAPA 7214 or WIX 57214

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5-30W 8qts

V drive: Mobil SHC 630 1.25 qts

Transmission: ATF 2.5 qts

This is a repeat recommendation, but I just made the same mod on our 2021 A24 that I’d previously done with our 2016 T22 to add air hose quick disconnects to the hose. This time the factory fitting was smaller so I had to remove it and replace with a larger barbed fitting in the hose. 1DED62A9-5BC7-46F6-A684-F2CC095A4F28.thumb.jpeg.91de38c1c35122549297c214eb1f0f4d.jpeg
