Here are some excerpts from Boating Mag, December issue, 'The Specialists' by Jeff Hemmel:

---------------------RPM------MPH-----GPH-----MPG-----Sound dB

Response LXi ----3500-----35.4-----10.8----3.3--------82

Outback ----------3500-----33.1-----10.8----3.1--------91

ProStar 197 ------3500-----35.2-----11.6----3.0--------89

Tige 20i -----------3500-----34.3-----10.4----2.9--------88

----------------------WOT-----MPH-----GPH-----MPG------Sound dB

Response LXi-------4900----45.5----23.9-----1.9--------91

Outback ------------5200----45.3----25.1-----1.8--------96

ProStar 197 -------4900-----45.1----23.2-----1.9--------90

Tige 20i ------------4800------44.0----21.2----2.1--------99

Wake as described by one skier:

Response LXi--small and soft with no significant bump at shorter line lengths.

Outback--wake was small but a bit harder than the Malibu and MC.

ProStar 197--the wake was small but just a touch harder than the Malibu.

Tige 20i--the wake was slightly larger than the other boats but exceptionally soft.

These figures that Jack supplied are interesting. The Reponse LXI 2007 is running 2 mph slower than the 2006 model and the 2007 MC 197 is running 3 mph faster than 2006 model based on 2006 waterski mag performance figures. Are these correct.

Great info Jack and I don't mean to dispute you or your source of info but my experience tells me that the 197 uses gas about twice the rate the RLXi does. And I've never seen a 197 get close to 45mph. If you puruse the MC site you will find a majority of owners there asking how they can coax a bit more speed out of their impressive boats because they want to GET TO 45MPH. Lastly, the MC is much more quiet to my ears than the data above suggests.

Just my 2 cents.

Just as a point of clarification, the thread is 2006 RLXi, but mresinc asked about the 2007. The information I posted was a comparison of 2007 models.

I remember you've mentioned gas consumption previously, though in this case it is with a new hull. Though the performance can be altered greatly by prop selection, I didn't post the props used because the data provided in the tables are different from that in the text. The prop data in the tables, I believe to be incorrect. With this in mind, it is possible there are inaccuracies (or that I entered something wrong Crazy.gif ), but in general, this mag provides this type of info every month on many boats.

As to the sound, I agree completely, based specifically on the '95 MC w/vette that I ski behind regularly. How that compares to a modern day 197, I have no experience. Only thing I can offer here is that a sound meter provides an objective volume measurement, but perhaps does not allow for subjective hearing of the human ear with regard to tone, pitch, etc.
