87 skier impeller intake issues

Recommended Posts

Having some issues after swapping burned up impeller on my 1987 Malibu Skier.  I've owned it for 8 years after being raised on this same boat.

Last year my 14 yr old drove the boat onto the trailer and did great. I stupidly forgot to have her shut it down so it stayed on for a minute or so until I noticed.

I didn't check but found out on our next outing it fried the impeller.

Swapped it out the other day and that impeller went everywhere in the system. I found pieces in the intake area, all throughout the hoses up to the part that enters the block. When I connect the fake lake, I don't get any water making it through to the exhaust exit area. I'm wondering what else might be blocked to not allow the water to make it through. Any ideas?

The most likely area for impeller pieces to collect is at the transmission cooler inlet. Some small pieces may lodge in the cooler passages. You can dig those out with a small pick.
