Best sunscreen options

Hey all - wondering what everyone uses for Sunscreen on the boats.  We used to use some neutrogena stuff we got at Costco, but we think that stuff is too greasy.  We think it is best to stay away from spray ones, but open to any ideas or thoughts on what is good now adays.

Thanks!

DO NOT! Use Sun Bum sunscreen in your boat. It’s great sunscreen for the beach, but it is practically impossible to get out of vinyl upholstery. The drivers door, that’s black in my truck have permanent white marks. Have used everything short of magic eraser, and can’t get it out.

Interesting - that was one we were looking at.  Certain kind that you used with this issue?

We use Sun Bum on our boat. Faces and the regular SPF50 sunscreen. No issues with the upholstery. Sun Bum does have a Zinc sunscreen. I would imagine that is hard on upholstery.

As someone who goes to the Dermatolisgist for annual checkups due to both parents having had melanomas removed (in time luckily), I am careful as possible while still being on the boat a few days a wek  The best sunscreen is UV clothing and a wide brimmed hat.  This quiksilver hooded UV shirt is amazing:  https://www.quiksilver.com/waterman-angler-hooded-long-sleeve-upf-50-surf-t-shirt-EQMWR03077.html.  My favorite hat is this one:  https://sundayafternoons.com/products/ultra-adventure-hat

For face and hands, I'm a big fan of the Joshua Tree Clear Zinc Sunscreen:  https://www.jtreelife.com/collections/sun-screen/products/spf-30-lotion.  Still a little white like most zinc products but I haven't had issues wiping it off etc.  If you talk with a Dermatologist they emphasize that you need zinc in your sunblock.  Most bigger commercial products don't have zinc.  For a deepdive on zinc vs chemical sunscreens, check out this:  https://www.ewg.org/sunscreen/report/the-trouble-with-sunscreen-chemicals/

Also don't forget you can buy sunscreen with HSA dollars, as long as it is SPF30+!

This is mostly what my wife and kids wear.  Doesn't make a mess and seems to protect their Scandinavian complexions.  I'm one of those folks who never wears any.  Might pay for it one of these days.

I'm glad we tan, I couldn't imagine having to wear long sleeve shirts, masks, huge hats and zinc sunscreen...lol  With that said we use Tropicana Island sport SPF 30.  Not greasy and feels like lotion and applied every hour hour and a half.
