Tracking fin harmonic

Recommended Posts

Hi Bu Crew,

Any thoughts appreciated - Due to the recent Brisbane (Australia) floods, I had to replace 2 tracking fins on my Flightcraft Sportster DD. Hit a submerged water tank!

Now I have developed a 'screaming' sound at 27 - 28 mph. Prop shaft is straight, skeg/motor is aligned.

I am correct in thinking it is the tracking fins (water flow) causing the sound and can I (gently/carefully) grind one edge and possibly back edge to change the water flow? Fins don't have "windows/cutouts".

Many Thanks

I think I've heard of this phenomenon before.  Can you get someone to drive while you use a mechanics stethoscope and see if you can identify the location?  You're sure the packing is good and not overtightened, right?
