1990 Skier - Wet Seat Bottom

Haven't been on since last summer.  Nice to see this page again.  So the rear seat bottom cushion on my Skier is made of a piece of plywood that has a cushion mounted on it.  Pretty standard.  The design is pretty lousy.  The plywood bottom which is carpeted simply plops on the rugged floor, which as a ski boat, gets wet (duh!) and as a result the plywood gets pretty sopped with water.  I am thinking of screwing some kind of plastic wood strips to the plywood to create and air gap to allow air circulation so that the plywood (and floor under the cushion) will dry.  Has anyone else done this?  Are there any other fixes you all have thought of to deal with this situation.  Another thought I had was to coat the plywood with fiberglass resin and mat.  Looking for your input.  Many thanks for any help and advice offered.  -John

I like the idea of strips to keep the plywood off the floor.  You could go further and replace the whole plywood piece with HDPE panel so it won't rot.

You may want to look on Pontoonstuff.com. They have plastic risers that hold the fencing elevated to allow for increased airflow. You may be able to make that work on your project. Nice and cheap too.
