New A22 - whistling from ballast pump

Recommended Posts

Hi folks - new a22 with only 12 hours and dealer upgraded pnp sacks. At first at 4000 rpm there would be heavy whistle sound from front ballast pump area. At 10 hour service dealer said they rerouted some of the hoses going to sacks and sound no longer happens at 4000 rpm / 27-29 mph. Now it happens at full throttle and 35 mph. The same sound comes back but much louder. Given they rerouted hoses again, what else could be causing this that I could check myself?

I won’t be going full throttle much if ever (just to pass other boats) but would love to get rid of this. Thx

I've noticed that the vented loop valves on the ballast fill hose for the center tank will occasionally whistle when filling, draining, or when enough water sloshes around in the ballast tank.  No real fix for it other than not using the ballast.

Mine does make some whistle sounds when draining and filling (especially when u stop filling) - this doesn’t bother me much. It is the whistling at speed when they are totally empty. I had some passengers today think it was an alarm on the console (we punched it to 5500 rpm to get around someone).

I have the exact same issue on my boat.  The sound appears to be coming from just to the front of the drivers seat.  Usually above 3500 RPM, but not constant.  Intermittent.  This is a real mystery.

Mine (2018 T22) does it too at +25 MPH, I've isolated to one of the two vent loop valves (in the starboard helm) & replaced the duckbill valve in the noisy one.  Still continues to whistle - I can put my finger on it to stop the noise.  The noise is dependent on the waves, when the hull is compressed by an on coming wave, the whistle increases then slowly diminishes, until the next wave, and so on.  Open to suggestions for a more permanent solution.

Wrap the whistling vent loop in a couple layers of carpet. Hold the carpet around it with a couple of plastic wire ties. If that didn’t deaden the sound enough, then add a couple more layers.
